Cleis Press Publisher Brenda Knight Honored For Commitment To Indy Books

BERKELEY, Calif.—Cleis Press publisher Brenda Knight was recently honored as a “luminary in independent book publishing” by Howard Lovy, executive director at ForeWord Reviews.

"To us, the indie spirit is personified in the woman in charge of our choice for Independent Publisher of the Year,” Lovy said. “She has a sense of mission, of purpose, to take what could be a very niche market—erotica, feminism, LGBTQ literature—and make it relevant and useful to as wide a readership as possible."

Lovy also spoke to the evolution of Cleis Press, saying, "What began as a lesbian press has since morphed, under the guidance of its leader, into a fiercely independent publishing company whose mission is to bring tolerance and acceptance of all lifestyles to all audiences."

In celebration of their award, Cleis has launched a summer special, with a discount on all 400 of their titles.

Cleis Press publishes provocative, intelligent books across genres. Whether literary fiction, human rights, mystery, romance, erotica, LGBTQ studies, sex guides, pulp fiction, or memoir, if it's outside the ordinary, it's Cleis Press.
