UNITED KINGDOM—The UK's adult industry support organization United Kingdom Adult Professionals (UKAP) has agreed to develop a formal response in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
In its recently released announcement, the organization has set up two working groups made up of industry members to study ways to improve conditions for black and minority industry professionals. The Experience Share Group, made up of professionals of black and other minority backgrounds, will be paid for their time and discuss their experiences in the industry and identify problems for the second group, the Study and Response Group, to learn from. The latter group will be unpaid, and made up of members of all backgrounds, who will examine the indentified problems and work toward solving them.
The issues that that groups will cover are:
1. Roles in porn’s impact on the public: Exploring history, stereotypes and more.
2. Roles in porn’s impact on the performer: Exploring relationships to communities and self.
3. Performer hiring discrimination and exploring differences in rates.
4. Content creation and creating your own image.
5. Lighting on set and photoshopping, including in scenes with performers with varied skin tones.
6. Awards using different structures andidentifying diversity barriers.
7. “Comparative value” performers having contrasting treatment in other work and retirement.
8. Where studios avoid improvements, and investigating black and minority ethnicity ownership.
The organization said it aims to eliminate racism within the adult industry with the new initiative: "Resolving racism will be a win reflecting leadership from people that are black and minority ethnicities, and white people respecting the experiential expertise. Both parts of this resolution benefit us all collectively," the organization wrote in its announcement.
