LOS ANGELES—Measure B, known to many as the "safe sex" movement in Los Angeles, is on the ballot for public vote in the fast-approaching November 6, 2012 elections in Los Angeles. Many adult industry participants have heard of Measure B, but the majority may not be fully aware of how this law will impact the entire adult industry as a whole.
Measure B will require mandatory use of condoms, rubber gloves, dental dams and safety goggles on set. Failure to do so will make it a criminal offense with up to 6 months in jail and thousands of dollars in fines. It will enforce strict licensing and permitting procedures and require Public Health (government) officials to inspect production sets, costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in start-up costs alone.
The effect is far-reaching: Adult film production in Los Angeles will be "pushed" outside of the local area, impacting thousands of local jobs and causing negative repercussions to the local economy. If Measure B goes into effect, it will quickly impact the 22 percent of adult industry performers who reside and work in Los Angeles. This law penetrates into the privacy of our own homes and requires private cam show performers to obtain a permit to work inside their own homes. Governments across the globe are watching closely and view "Measure B" as a test case: if it passes, the damage to the adult industry will be immeasurable.
"This will immediately cripple Los Angeles-based producers. These are some of the industry's largest companies, they are your partners, your sponsors, your customers and your suppliers," said Jon Krogman, COO of MetArt. " If successful, it will spread very quickly to every state, every city, every jurisdiction where adult content is produced, affecting all of us, everywhere..."
Our entire industry needs to come together to VOTE NO on MEASURE B! It does not just harm Los Angeles, CA adult workers; it will negatively impact everyone in the adult industry. It is time to stand together as the thriving industry that we are, and support one another. Corporations, small companies, performers, photographers, stage crew and webmasters can make a difference and protect our freedoms.
"This is a critical time for the adult entertainment industry. If we demonstrate that we are unwilling or unable to defend ourselves against the crippling effect of this ballot measure imposed by anti-adult industry zealot Mike Weinstein from AHF, we will open the floodgate for attack by any number of anti-industry organizations," said Diane Duke, CEO of Free Speech Coalition. "The decision is ours and the time to act is NOW."
