Phil St. John Begins Production on Gay Porn Mock-umentary

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - New GAYVN Hall of Fame member Phil St. John has begun work on what he calls a "mock-u-doc-u-cock-u-mentary" that will poke fun at his lengthy career in gay porn.

A self described eyewitness to gay porn history, St. John produced his first gay porn film in 1985: Getting It. He said he considers himself a pioneer in a number of industry genres, notably double-penetration. St. John said he shot the first gay DP video, Below the Belt, in 1986. The video starred then-first-timer Chad Douglas, a St. John discovery who went on to have a significant gay-porn career.

St. John's biggest gay DP movie - and the world's first all-DP gay porn title, he said - scored at the 2004 GAYVN Awards when Double Delights snagged the Best Specialty Film trophy.

In 1998, St. John released South Beach Heat, a gay porn film based on the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace. A softcore version of the film enjoyed theatrical release.

St. John said he also introduced the "skateboard boy" genre when he released Skateboard Sliders in 1999. He also takes credit for creating the first behind-the-scenes featurette in gay porn with the extras that accompanied 2002's Getting it at the Rave, starring Billy Brandt.

St. John stumbled into porn as a performer when he began taking roles in gay adult films to pay his way through film school at San Francisco State University. He has directed for All Worlds Video, Falcon Studios, Titan Media, Tribal Pulse and Pacific Sun, in addition to creating "loops" for people he called his "Italian friends in the mob who owned all the arcades in Times Square."

A lifetime Fellow of the American Film Institute, St. John is the only Academy Award nominee working in gay adult entertainment.
