‘The Advocate’ Launches HIV-AIDS Educational Effort

LOS ANGELES—The Advocate, a 40-year-old LGBT publication that claims to distribute nearly 4 million copies annually, has launched a new website section “intended to inform and educate” the community about HIV-AIDS and World AIDS Day.

Launched Dec. 1—World AIDS Day 2009—“Here to Inspire” presents a variety of material, including an inspirational photo gallery commemorating World AIDS Days past. Also at the site is a special feature, “Twenty-Five at 25,” celebrating 25 men and women who have made a difference over the 25-year history of the annual event. Additionally, The Advocate has posted interviews with significant community activists and artists, as well as articles exploring relationships between HIV and mental and physical health.
