SAN FRANCISCO, CA — It's been a year since NakedSword released its most ambitious film project to date, the critically acclaimed hit indie feature I Want Your Love.
NakedSword's first foray into the independent film world was a success critically and commercially, with major outlets such as the New York Times, Variety, UK Guardian, Indiewire, Huffington Post, and many others devoting substantial column inches to NakedSword's one-of-a-kind release. The film followed a gay artist on his last weekend in San Francisco with his tight knit group of friends before leaving the city for the midwest. Today, NakedSword is celebrating the anniversary of the groundbreaking video by releasing another title by director Travis Mathews, In Their Room: Berlin. In Their Room: Berlin, explores gay love and sex through the eyes of gay men living in Berlin. The film is more in the vein of a documentary than story driven, while still being as entertaining and intensely sexy. On the anniversary of I Want Your Love, NakedSword founder and president Tim Valenti hopes In Their Room: Berlin helps draw attention to NakedSword’s I Want Your Love and the independent film arm, NakedSword Independents, which released the film last year.
“Ironically, I think it took a porn company to show that an artistically honest film could use sex in a way that wasn’t exploitative or gratuitous,” says Valenti. “You see it all over gay media now, from Blue Is the Warmest Color to Looking. Travis’s follow up film, Interior. Leather Bar went to Sundance, got mainstream distribution, and a glowing New York Times review. It’s funny to think that I Want Your Love got banned when we were showing it at festivals just last year.”
In Their Room: Berlin and I Want Your Love might not be the typical projects for an adult film company but for NakedSword they are right at home. In fact, NakedSword pioneered what is now commonplace in the gay porn space, which is online series that feature a story and through-line, keeping consumers coming back for more week after week to see new episodes featuring premium gay adult content with a storyline.
