LOS ANGELES—Wicked Pictures on Friday releases contract director Brad Armstrong's newest marquee drama An Inconvenient Mistress.
With Wicked Girl and three-time AVN Best Actress Jessica Drake starring alongside Ryan Driller, the movie takes aim at the complicated financial schemes that have led to the nation's economic woes in recent years.
"The script for An Inconvenient Mistress was one of those tough ones to write, but man did the hard work pay off," Armstrong said. "We knew we had womething really special while we were shooting it. The chemistry between Jessica Drake and Ryan Driller was so believable, they just seemed natural together. And when I watched the finished movie for the first time, I was so happy with how well it all came together. My camermen Barrett Balde, Scott Allen and Alex Ladd captured some amazing moments, and my editor Geddy Lee Roth did an incredible job building them into a truly captivating story."
That story follows the affair between Ava (Drake) and married businessman Ryan, who learns that their adultery and his firm's unscrupulous business dealings are on the verge of being exposed. The Security & Exchange Commission has received a tip on possible insider trading at the firm, and Ryan suspects Ava might be behind it, though she insists she knows nothing about the stock market and hasn't mentioned the company's upcoming merger to anyone. With the S.E.C. closing in and Ryan's wife learning about all of his duplicitous activities, his life begins to crumble.
"Playing the character of Ava was actually one of the harder roles I've taken on as an actress," Drake said. "Normally, I'm given a fair amount of background information or inspiration for a character, which allows me to develop certain mannerisms or tone. Instead, Ava is not based on anyone or anything. I think she presents herself as neither good nor bad, savior nor villain. She just IS."
Agreed Armstrong, "The role of Ava was a difficult one to play. It's not your typical star/heroine role. It was something different, gritty and understated, but Jessica really brought the character to life. In the end, you're not sure if you like her or hate her, which was great. That 'gray area' is what makes a person interesting. Jessica has won Best Actress a number of times before and her portrayal of Ava is definitely awards-worthy."
Drake heaped praise on Driller and many of her other co-stars as well, commenting, "I am in awe of the ease with which Ryan Driller played his part. The dialogue felt like talking, emotions were projected easily. Playing alongside a professional takes the work out of the job and allowed us to concentrate on telling the story and having amazing sex—which we did time and time again. Within the movie are some of the best scenes I've ever done—a huge orgy with Ryan, Isiah Maxwell and Eric Masterson, an epic d.p. scene on a car with Ryan and Michael Vegas, and countless other romps with Ryan throughout."
Filling out the cast are Bridgette B., Cali Carter, Ember Snow, Summer Brielle, Honey Gold, India Summer, Morgan Lee, Seth Gamble and Armstrong himself.
"Brad Armstrong once again has outdone himself by writing an amazing script, casting it perfectly, choosing locations, designing sets and executing one of the best-acted movies this year," Drake concluded. "Working with him has always been my favorite thing—he knows my abilities and potential and makes sure to challenge me every time. Thanks to everyone at Wicked Pictures, we have another hit on our hands."
Added Armstrong, "The script, the acting, the sex, the locations ... An Inconvenient Mistress just works so well. I'm incredibly proud of this film and I think people are really gonna love it."
