VHS packaging for Space Nuts DVD packaging for Space Nuts

Space Nuts will be simultaneously released as a packaged two-disc DVD collector’s edition and specially packaged two-tape VHS set tomorrow.

The special packaging was required in part because of the three hour and six minute length of the sci-fi comedy, but the design of the two-tape VHS packaging – which folds open like a book, with each side having it’s own tabs for accessing the video was meant to signal the quality of the video inside.

The VHS version of Space Nuts will also include, for the first time for Wicked, a behind-the-scenes documentary.

The two-disc DVD has two DVDs in separate jewel cases both enclosed in a cardboard box with a fold out cover. The DVD set includes features that Wicked has never used before as well as some improvements to previously seen features.

“The Directors Nightmare” feature is an audio/video diary kept by director Jonathan Morgan during the making of Space Nuts. The scope of this feature is greatly expanded since it was last seen on Morgan’s Hercules.

The DVD also includes a “Special Effects Reel With Commentary” that captures the special effects work done by a mainstream effects studio and makeup crew.

“They were fans of adult so they were willing to work with us and able to give us some stunning special effects work,” Wicked’s publicist Daniel Metcalfe said of the special effects team.

Another new feature is the Best Of “On Camera Commentary,” video highlights of the recording of the audio commentary.

In yet another first for Wicked, Space Nutsis also being supported by the company’s first title-specific web site, SpaceNutsTheMovie.com.

“The Website has only been up for about a week,” said Anne Petrie, Wicked’s director of new media, “but the feedback we’ve received has been quite positive. Most site visitors have been sent the movie link by a friend. We’re seeing a great deal of viral or word-of-mouth marketing that has built tremendous interest in this movie.”

The site features photographs from the set, desktops, screensavers, information about the DVDs Easter eggs, and operates as an online press kit for the movie.

“Space Nuts has so much great imagery that it wouldn’t all fit on the two-DVD set,” Petrie told AVN.com, “so the Website was a great way to give people a taste of what is on the DVD. Also, we wanted to let people in on how to find the hidden DVD Easter eggs.”

“The Website serves a few purposes,” explained Petrie. “First, it works well as a fan site, as people can get desktops, screensavers and information about the DVD Easter eggs. Secondly, it operates as an online press kit for the movie. In this day and age, if you make it easy for reporters to write about your movies, the more coverage you’ll get.”

Space Nuts runs over three hours long and features 10 full sex scenes with a cast of over 20 adult performers, including Stormy, Devinn Lane, Kaylani Lei, and Jessica Drake.
