Managed Web hosting solution providers WebAir has become a Corporate Sponsor to Adult Sites Against Child Pornography.
"We strongly believe in the efforts of ASACP," said WebAir chief Michael Christopher, "and are proud to be sponsoring such a noble cause. It's people like Joan Irvine and companies like ASACP that help keep the Internet safe. We stand proudly with ASACP every step of the way."
Irvine, for her part, said Christopher himself often contacted ASACP with information on suspect child porn and asked what else they could do to help. "Companies like WebAir, that take such an active role in this battle, demonstrate the concern of the industry to protect children," Irvine said in a statement.
WebAir was created in 1996 by Webmasters looking to provide viable, affordable managed Web hosting solutions for all kinds of businesses of all sizes, including server supply, software, bandwidth, and management tools, from Internet solutions to enterprise server solutions.
In other news on the fight against child porn:
Tauranga, New Zealand - An on- and offline child porn trader sentenced to a year behind bars has been refused an appeal asking for leave to apply for home detention. Ross Alexander Mundy was sentenced in April in a case involving 41 charges of dealing in child sex abuse images, including what a published report said involved collecting and distributing videos and pictures of children and babies being abused sexually. "It is hard to think of another type of offending committed in a home capable of such wide ramifications," wrote High Court Justice Hugh Williams in denying Mundy's appeal. But being denied leave from jail to apply doesn't mean Mundy still cannot apply for home detention.
London - Operation Ore has landed 13 more Internet child porn suspects. Raids around London involving 100 officers landed the 13, bringing the total number Operation Ore has captured to well over 3,500. "We will continue to take action," said Scotland Yard Child Protection Command spokesman Matthew Sarti, "where we have intelligence that indicates a person presents a threat to children through physical or sexual abuse."
Polk Township, Pa> - A Monroe County man whose wife and daughter were found dead a week earlier was arrested for child porn on his home computer May 11. Investigators searching the home of Gregory Rowe's mother, where he was staying after his wife and daughter died in the family's Pike County home, found the child porn images. No one has been arrested in connection with the two deaths, according to authorities.
New Britain, Conn. - A Rocky Hill man is held on a $250,000 bond following his May 10 arrest on 15 counts of child porn and 20 obscenity counts, after police recovered over a dozen images from his computer. Police began probing Robert Stephens after the Department of Children and Families complained about his suspected activities. The obscenity charges come because a third party viewed the images, authorities said.
Pretoria, South Africa - A social worker facing 16 charges, including producing child porn and sexual assault and solicitation of minor boys between 1999 and 2002, has pleaded not guilty in regional court. The unnamed man pleaded guilty to one firearm possession charge.
