Vivid’s ‘Batman’ Gets Big-Time Tribute in the Village Voice

LOS ANGELES—Vivid Entertainment’s first porn parody has attracted perhaps its biggest mainstream press coverage in this week’s Village Voice. The alternative newsweekly devotes a full, four-color page to Batman XXX: A Porn Parody.

Written and drawn by cartoonist Ward Sutton, the fun 14-panel Bat Porn sends up the Axel Braun-directed parody through the eyes of all the different versions of Batman over the years.

“It captures the camp fun of the original show with an amazing attention to detail: there’s the George Barris Batmobile, a Neal Hefti knock-off score …The joker even has a covered-with-makeup mustache a la Cesar Romero! And Dale DaBone really Bat-channels you,” Sutton wrote.

"We've been delighted with all of the positive reviews that we've been getting for the movie, but Ward's BatPorn definitely deserves a special shout out," Vivid founder and co-chairman Steven Hirsch said. “His spoof or our spoof is campy and fun, capturing the flavor of our movie and of the TV series, complete to his ‘GROAN!’ and ‘Bat-Tissue.’”

Sutton has a bi-weekly cartoon in TV Guide and is a contributor to The New York Times, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Time, The Nation, and Entertainment Weekly. He has also created animation for HBO, VH-1 and TV Land.

The cheeky comic also pokes fun at how society has become more accepting of porn as entertainment.

“In my day, we didn’t show so much pink … or any color, for that matter.”

For the past two weeks Batman XXX: A Porn Parody retained the No. 1 spot on AVN’s Retail Buzz Chart. It currently sits in the No. 2 slot behind another Vivid release, Kendra Exposed, the sex tape of Playboy Playmate and reality show star Kendra Wilkinson.
