Vigil, Memorial Service Scheduled for Carlos Batts

LOS ANGELES—Friends and family of Carlos Batts have announced a vigil and a memorial service for the artist, Nov. 8-9 at the Church of the Recessional at Forest Lawn Glendale.

A vigil and viewing are scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, while the funeral takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.

Forest Lawn Glendale is located at 1712 South Glendale Ave., Glendale, CA 91205.

The 40-year-old artist, photographer and director died unexpectedly Oct. 22. Batts, who was also known as C. Batts Fly, was an artist, photographer and director. His artwork appeared on book covers and album covers, as well as in music videos and movies. He also had several internationally distributed hardbound coffee table books that showcase his artistic approach to photography

His family, including widow April Flores—who was his muse for his work for more than a decade—is asking friends to join them in celebrating Batts’ life.

“It’s been hard, tragic and unexpected,” Flores told AVN. “But I think the thing that has been getting me through these days is the prayers, love and support of everyone. I would be beyond happy to see people come together to celebrate him and ensure that his legacy goes on. I know the kinds words people have shared so far are making his soul happy.”

The vigil and service are open to the public.

Additionally, donations are being accepted to help Flores and Batts’ family defray expenses associated with the funeral. Funds can be donated via Paypal to [email protected], or sent to a Bank of America account under the name of Angelica Centeno, account number 3250 3004 6353.
