Vice Tackles Fuzzy Issue of Pubic Hair in Porn

LOS ANGELES—Going, going, gone … and now it’s back. The question of public hair in porn is an oft-broached one, and Vice.com recently tackled the fuzzy subject.

With the headline “Bush Is Back In Porn, Baby!”, the article examines whether a lack of pubic hair in porn starting in the 1990s influenced women in general to go bare down there, or vice versa.

Whether you refer to is as downstairs carpet, birds nests, mine (we see you, Brits), bush or any other euphemism, pubic hair is becoming more prevalent in porn, Vice argues. The professional porn-watchers here at AVN, however, would say that this comeback actually began some years back—especially if you take into account niche producers with titles like Scary Hairy from ATK/Kick Ass and abbywinters' unshorn amateur performers.

Be that as it may, the article offers a number of noteworthy quotes. Performer-turned-producer Lily Campbell of YanksVR.com estimates that one-third to one-half of the women she shoots have hair down there. And according to Joanna Angel, “There is not one look or thing that is standard the way it was in the ’70s or ’80s.”

And once again, there’s a bit of a chicken-or-the-egg debate: Are porn performers with pubic hair influencing pop culture, or is it the other way around? All in all, does it really matter?

“Whatever you got,” Yanks.com model Raven Snow, tells Vice, “somebody is probably going to want to see it.”
