UNITED KINGDOM—A British morning talk show on ITV called This Morning is on the receiving end of complaints over a segment that aired before noon on the subject of "granny porn." In fact, the term "granny porn" was uttered during the segment, which in and of itself sparked some negative feedback. The subject of the show was not about "granny porn," mind you, but a sexual relationship between a very old woman and young man.
"The show's guests included 31-year-old Kyle Jones and his 91-year-old girlfriend Marjorie McCool, and the self confessed 'cougar chaser' shared a few too many details about his sex life for that time in the morning," reported entertainmentwise.com. " Marjorie and Kyle have shared an open sexual relationship for the last five years, and had no problem telling [hosts] Philip [Schoefield] and Holly [Willoughby] all about it."
Everyone was apparently having a jolly time, except for some viewers. "While the hosts were in fits of laughter," the site reported, "not all of the viewers were as amused. A lot of them took to Twitter in order to express that they felt the interview was inappropriate for that time in the morning, particularly with the use of the phrase 'granny porn'."
Miranda Suit from Safermedia was queried for her take on the matter. Interestingly, she mostly sidestepped the question of age to focus on the subject of conversation, remarking, "When it comes to sexually explicit conversation or topics," she said, "we usually find that across daytime TV they handle the topics very carefully or sensitively. While I'm sure today's topic were meant in good humor, having a woman talk explicitly about her sexual relationship pre-watershed [i.e. before 9pm] should raise alarm bells—children could be watching.
"We have to be very careful about exposing our children and young people to sexualized conversation," she added. "Phrases such as 'granny porn' are too adult, could cause confusion and is therefore irresponsible of the shows."
You really cannot make this stuff up.
