FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—TS performer Brittany CoxXx, who originally rose to fame in the adult industry as gay porn star Stonie, has died. She was 38.
Born July 19, 1978, in New Orleans, CoxXx was most recently living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she owned and operated Couture Visions Photography. She passed on Dec. 6; a cause of death was not immediately available.
CoxXx first started in adult in 1999 as Stonie, working for GayVN Hall of Fame director Paul Barresi. Stonie was soon popular among colleagues and fans, often described as the Kate Moss of porn and as having “one of the hottest asses in the business,” according to former AVN journalist Mickey Skee. By 2006, Stonie had appeared in more 60 movies for every major gay porn studio. Stonie was often cast in features with authoritarian, discipline or military themes.
Stonie was nominated in the 2001 GayVN Awards as Best Newcomer, and starred in the 2001 GayVN Award-winning movie Caesar’s Hardhat Gang Bang, which took home the trophy for Best Ethnic-Themed Video.
In a year-long process, CoxXx transitioned from male to female around 2006. The last performances of Stonie were filmed in 2005, but CoxXx soon returned to the industry as a TS performer, once again teaming up with director Paul Barresi for Brittany’s Transformation for Pleasure Productions. The movie was nominated for the 2009 AVN Awards in the category of Best Transsexual Movie. She also was nominated for Transsexual Performer of the Year that year.
“I’m really looking forward to working again with Pleasure Productions and Paul Barresi,” Coxxx told AVN at the time. “It’s funny how things happen in life. Everything seems to come full circle.”
CoxXx also did numerous scenes for TS companies, including Grooby.
“We’ve had credible information that Brittany passed away, but don’t have many details on it,” owner Stephen Grooby told AVN.
CoxXx first appeared on Grooby’s BobsTgirls.com website in 2006 and then appeared in scenes between 2007 and 2011 for a number of studios, Grooby added.
“She was very beautiful in both of her lives,” Channel 1 Releasing’s Chi Chi LaRue told AVN. “I think she was happier once she transitioned. it wasn't easy for her in this industry. A lot of people didn't show her support or respect her decision. I always supported her decision because I knew that that's what she wanted in her heart. She was a very soft-spoken tiger and didn't take shit from anybody but always did it with a smile on her face. The last time I saw her she was taking pictures for different events in Fort Lauderdale and Miami, and no matter how long it was between times of seeing each other, her hugs and hellos were always genuine and loving. It's very sad.”
Gino Gultier, who represented CoxXx when she was in the gay porn industry as Stonie, worked with her for years and remained friends with CoxXx after she left the industry.
Guiltier has several fond memories of CoxXx, including of times when they were dancers at the Campus Theater in San Francisco in 1999.
“During our downtime, we would do touristy stuff like visiting the Castro District, Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown and the TransAmerica Building,” Gultier said. “I was very proud of her success and what she had become.”
In addition to a successful career as first a gay and then a TS performer, CoxXx was also known for being part of a sight gag in the successful yet controversial 2006 mockumentary comedy film Borat. In the film, the main character (portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen) visits with an etiquette coach and show photos of himself and his alleged 13-year-old son, portrayed by CoxXx (who at the time still presented as male). The gag involved pictures, one of which showed Cohen being cradled in the arms of a naked Stonie and another that depicted Cohen squatting down and giving a thumbs up to a close-up of Stonie’s large genitals.
CoxXx left adult in 2009 and moved to Florida, where she remained until her death.
