Tru Story: Former Personal Trainer Tru Kait Thriving in Adult

LOS ANGELES—Tru Kait wants to move into the next phase of career now that she’s built a brand that fans can trust.

A perfectionist on and off the set, Kait likes to “underpromise and overdeliver.”

“I’m going to do things I’ve never done,” Kait says. “I’m going to start releasing more content that’s just like upping what I’ve been doing.

“Anal, DVPs, gangbangs… I’ve never done that on camera and I plan to start.”

That’s great news for fans of the former fitness trainer at Equinox, who in the past four-and-a-half years has established herself as one of adult’s most bankable creators—doing more than 300 collaborations with a who’s who of porn along the way.

The native of Long Beach, Calif.—who grew up in San Antonio, Texas—has amassed a global following as the dreamy “girl next door” who gets freaky in the bedroom. It's no wonder why she became the newest Fleshlight Girl earlier this month, when the Austin, Texas-based company introduced signature toys modeled after her private parts called “Dreams Come Tru” and “Too Good to Be Tru."

“I’m the sweet, innocent girl in front of you but then when I get to sex I’m like a sexual demon and I like to just turn it on,” Tru Kait tells AVN.

“I have so much fun doing that and fans really love it but I do want to step it up a little more. I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time.”

Kait, who turned 26 in September, says she’s learned enough about her body during her industry journey that she’s beyond ready to go bigger.

“I wanted to make sure I’m at that point where I’m actually going to enjoy it,” says Kait, whose stage name is half of her actual first and last names, but backwards. “I’m really glad that I waited because I know it’s going to be so much more fun.”

A Brazzers exclusive contract girl from 2020-21, Kait says she’s been selective with her mainstream adult work, doing scenes with Jules Jordan, SexLikeReal and VR Bangers in addition to studios within the ZZ network such as Digital Playground, Reality Kings, Mofos and Twistys.

The February 2023 Twistys Treat and May 2021 Penthouse Pet of the Month tells AVN that signing with Brazzers, even though it was a month before Covid hit, was “probably one of the best things I’ve ever done for my career.”

“They’re always family to me,” says Tru, who traveled to Europe for ZZ when she was under contract and returned again earlier this year. “They’re awesome, I love them so much.

“And definitely I met so many amazing people—all of the team in Canada at Brazzers. They’re such good people. We work together occasionally now and they brought me to AVN last year.

“So I was able to meet all my fans and sign at their booth.”

Kait landed one of the primary roles in Space Junk, a major Danny D feature for Digital Playground that was shot in the UK in February.

“We went to some really cool places,” she says. “We went to like a Cold War bunker and I shot a sex scene there inside the bunker, deep down. It was freezing cold. It was really fun. We did some adventurous stuff.”

The popular performer worked with Xander Corvus and Ella Hughes in a threeway, did a separate scene with Xander and the paired off with Geisha Kyd for the movie that hit the streets in September.

She also squared off with Danny D for Brazzers while she was in town.

Kait held down a 9-to-5 job in sales & marketing for a while before adult, but she says her aspiration was always to become a personal trainer.

So she did the work, earning her certification for personal training in August 2018.

“And while I was doing that studying was when I kind of got into doing more boudoir photoshoots,” Tru Kait recalls.

She already had her current Instagram account—which at press time was up to 2 million followers—but it was more fitness oriented.

And as she posted more of herself online, photographers would reach out and suggest they shoot together.

“And I had never been in front of a camera before,” Kait says. “I didn’t really understand any of that. It was a whole new world, so I would do it on the weekends as a hobby.”

Once she became more comfortable with one of her regular photographers, she experimented with sexier poses and outfits.

“I did like a sweater and a thong, kind of more and more,” Kait recalls. “And I really loved those photos. I was just like wow, I look beautiful. I worked so hard on my body, this is amazing.

“So fast forward to February of 2019 and I got a job at Equinox working as a personal trainer, which was my goal of moving to LA. And I quit my 9-to-5 and started working as a trainer.

“And one of the photographers told me, hey if you open an OnlyFans then we can shoot together and you just have to give me like 10% of that income and I’ll shoot you.

“So I was like OK, I’m nobody, I’m not going to make anything, so that’s an even trade. You’re helping me, you’re posting me, expanding my brand, so cool.”

The performer says that OnlyFans became the catalyst for her doing more nudes. First she got topless and then she did fully nude pictures just for OnlyFans without showing her face.

By summer of 2019, Kait began doing shoots with other guys, leading to a turning point in her content creation career.

It was during that summer that the notorious Johnny Sins slid into her DMs.

Sins has won a record seven consecutive Fan-Voted AVN Awards for Favorite Male Porn Star.

“I didn’t know who he was at all,” Kait says. “He was just like wanting to hook up or something. I was like, OK, he’s hot, sure.

“He came to my studio apartment in Venice Beach. We hooked up and he started telling me he was in the industry.

“I also had my ex-partner who was getting into the industry as well. He told me a lot about it. I kind of put two-and-two together, like this guy’s famous. I need to shoot a little bit of our sex.

“So I grabbed my phone in vertical and shot from the bottom down and started selling it and that scene sold like crazy.

“I started making a lot more money as soon as I started selling that scene. So I kept doing shoots with men—very spaced out, without my face—and I was just making more and more.”

Then in September of 2019, Kait quit her job at Equinox.

“Because I had a goal... If I’m making this amount by this time I’m going to quit the job and do this full time,” she says. “And so I quit my personal training job and got onto OnlyFans full time. My ex and I started doing threesomes together and once we started doing the threesomes I was like, OK, I have to show my face because this is too difficult.

“Also I was like I’m committed to this anyway. This was really fun.

“I was growing my fanbase, I was becoming bigger. I was like an influencer who also did porn on the side. We just went full on and ever since this has been my full-time job."

Now Kait earns upwards of six figures every month on the platform.

“The first thing that comes to mind is how thankful I am,” she says. “I’m so grateful. Not that I don’t feel like I’m anyone, I do, but I just feel that what I truly enjoy has exploded.”

Kait tells AVN she finished high school in Memphis, Tenn., where she lived with her older sister for two years. Then she went back to Texas, enrolling in college for one year as a finance major. During that time she trained for bodybuilding competitions.

“I got into bodybuilding and fitness while I was in college,” she explains. “I studied finance full time, had a full-time job and was just preparing for fitness competitions. So I was doing all three and then I realized my passion is fitness.

“That’s when I was like, I’m done with college, I’m moving out to LA and I’m going to be a personal trainer. ... I accomplished my goal of being a personal trainer but there was something else in store.”

Kait says she loved bodybuilding.

“However it’s not healthy. What I loved about it is the discipline and the challenge. I’m very much a discipline and challenge person. I like the competition. I like to push myself to higher levels. I constantly just want to do more,” she says.

“That was really fun and it was a very pivotal moment in my life. I was around 18 years old and I didn’t go party.

“I wasn’t a party girl, I didn’t drink. But rather I was always in the gym. It helped so much with my mental health and feeling positive. Although it still was a very restrictive lifestyle and not the healthiest.

“It definitely set a really good tone I feel like for my future years. So I’m really happy that I did that. Fitness is always going to be a passion of mine.”
