Senator Dewayne Bunch (R-Cleveland) has temporarily withdrawn a proposed bill to cut food taxes by creating a hefty tax on pornography, the Associated Press reports.
Announced earlier this year, the bill would impose a 25 percent tax on adult video rentals, escorts, pay-per-view subscriptions, magazines, books and other sexually-oriented goods and services. The bill also charges strippers an annual $400 "occupational privilege tax."
According to the report, Bunch emphasized that the Senate version of the bill is only "temporarily on hold." The Senator told the Associated Press that he "wants to become more familiar with the measure before working it through Senate committees."
Rep. Stacey Campfield (R – Knoxville) is backing the bill in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
