BOSTON—Director Angie Rowntree, creator of the film studio Sssh.com, aims to bring back the lost art of radio theater—with a twist.
Her award-winning female-friendly adult site now features erotic scripted audio plays, performed in the style of old-time radio shows with adult performers taking on a variety of roles.
“My love for old-time radio theater is what inspired me to develop this concept,” said director Angie Rowntree, creator of Sssh.com. “It’s a lost art from a simpler time.”
Sssh.com previously offered simple audio stories performed by one reader, but the new content will feature “fully scripted stories and rich, emotional performances,” said Rowntree. Plus, she will include “foley”—everyday sound effects such as closing doors, footsteps and raindrops—to add another layer of aural realism.
“Obviously, we include the lovely sounds of kissing, breathing and moaning,” Rowntree added.
Erotic audio stories are frequently requested by Sssh.com members, Rowntree said. “The aural experience allows the listener to engage her mind a bit more, and let her imagination fill in the blanks,” Rowntree explained. “It’s highly personal and intimate.”
Director Nica Noelle, who writes for the project, described it as “Erotic ASMR. You can indulge discreetly, by simply putting on a pair of headphones. It’s relaxing and stimulating and incredibly sexy.”
Noelle’s first audio play effort, “Her Husband’s Mother,” depicts an encounter between a woman and her daughter-in-law after the women share a drunken kiss at a Christmas party. The play stars Andi James and Ava Mir-Ausziehen and will be available October 1 on Sssh.com.
“That kiss opens a Pandora’s box of lesbian feelings for the younger woman,” Noelle said of the play. “I told Angie I wanted listeners to hear every sip of tea as they talk, every lip- smacking sound as they kiss.”
“I’ve been fascinated by the work of foley artists ever since I became aware of it, and I was excited to apply the art form to audio sex. And I was glad to find a use for those peaches!” Mir-Ausziehen said.
Currently available are “2118”, a science fiction novella in six chapters, and “The Oracles Price,” a dramatic tale set in medieval times.
