Spice Launches Spice HD; Channel Carries Only Adult Shot in Hi-Def

Just one week after launching the new adult channel Spice Live, Spice Digital Networks announced today that later this week they will launch what they are touting as the “first high-definition adult network.”

"Spice HD is another example of how adult programming drives new technologies," commented Jeff Jenest, General Manager, Spice Digital Networks. "Offering our exclusive programming in this contemporary format will not only provide our viewers with cutting edge entertainment, it will also provide additional revenue streams for our affiliates."

The new channel will run Thursday through Sunday with a late night prime schedule. Originating from Spice Digital Networks' studios in Los Angeles, Spice HD will produce over 1,200 hours of native high-definition programming in 2004 featuring the new, live daily shows, The Nooner and Spice Clips.

Additionally, Spice HD will premiere the new reality series, Unzipped, and movies showcasing the hottest stars in the adult entertainment industry.

In fact, Spice has been shooting shows like Spice Clips in the hi-def format for at least three weeks – though you wouldn’t have noticed even if you had a high-def TV. According to Spice TV spokesman Frank Marchesini hi-def doesn’t really work without a hi-def feed being sent.

“The reality is that HD is still rolling out very slowly. But by starting now, we’re positioning ourselves as the market leaders in HD for adult,” Marchesini said.

People who wish to order Spice HD can call their local cable operator or satellite provider to find out how they can get Spice HD.
