Sofia Rose Discusses Brazzers Debut

LOS ANGELES—Sofia Rose just about blew up the Internet when she became the first plus-size pornstar to be featured on the super-popular Brazzers platform. She revealed to AVN that the scene, “Deep Stretching,” was actually shot for Reality Kings.

“They didn’t tell me it was going to go on Brazzers," Rose says. "I had a great time shooting; Michael Vegas was great talent. It was a great experience and I was honored that they chose me to be the first plus-size for the site. That was super-exciting.”

The 43-year-old Latina is the Internet’s most downloaded BBW, with most of her recent content shot for Plumper Pass and Adult Time. She has won numerous BBW awards, most recently AVN Fan Favorite 2018.

Much of Sofia’s content can be viewed on ILoveSofiaRose.com, the third and “by far the most successful” website she’s had.

“In the beginning,” she recalls, “I only did glamour erotica and I didn’t go all the way. Then in 2012 I finally took the plunge and went full-on into hardcore. And I love it.” Her skill set now includes fetish items like face-sitting and fem-dom. Not to mention girl-girl. That, she says, “was really new to me when I started shooting. I’d never had a girl-on-girl experience. So it took me a minute to kind of get used to it. Now I really enjoy it.”

Sofia grew up in Southern California, “all over. We were very poor, we moved a lot, we couldn’t afford to stay in one place for too long. My mom struggled a lot, raising a lot of kids by herself. So my father took custody of me when I was 10 years old.”

She summarizes her pre-porn life briskly. “I went to a private school. I got pregnant when I was a teenager. I worked for a very well-known Fortune 500 company as an executive assistant. I was married and had one daughter. I divorced my husband and got into this business, just like that. I woke up one day and said I don’t want to do this any more, the 9-to-5 was boring, I needed to do something more but I didn’t know what it was.”

It was the Internet that helped her transition. “I just realized how big the world really was.”

The plus-size icon with her amazing 38JJ top, was in fact a skinny child. “I was 75 pounds, 25 pounds underweight, when I was 10 years old. I could not break 100 pounds. Then right when I was 11 years old, puberty hit, and overnight I had tits and ass.

“I remember the day that I finally stepped on the scale and I was 100 pounds, I was so excited. I gained the weight and I gained it like nightly. By the time I was 13 I was a 36DD. People would tell me I was voluptuous. I didn’t think I was fat. My ribs still protruded from my body, but my boobs and my ass, people considered me curvy because of that. When I got pregnant at 15, everything just got bigger. And it just kept getting bigger, all over my body.”

When she hit the modeling scene she realized that the plus-size community was “saturated with white women but there there weren’t too many Latinas with my body type. So that was why I just exploded onto the scene, and my fan base just grew so quickly. And I feel like every year it just gets bigger. Which is why I’m still here after 13 years. That’s a long career. I think that’s because what was once a fetish and a niche is becoming more the norm.”

Sofia has been outspoken on the subject of body positivity. Her daughter, now 28, “was very badly bullied and shamed as a very young child. I wanted to reassure her that you can be beautiful at any size. The irony is that I was underweight and I was bullied and shamed for being too skinny. So my daughter was bullied for being the opposite. And it really upset me. I became very defensive.”

Defending her daughter turned into “a passion, not just for the fat community but for thin women, for trans women, for women of color, gay women. Everybody at some point in their lives has been shamed about something and felt that they didn’t belong in a community... and none of this is right. I’ve been very vocal about all of it and I will continue to do so as long as I have a platform and a voice to do that.”

Sofia is involved in two big upcoming projects. One is a documentary for mainstream TV to be shot this summer. If it takes off, “I think it will do a lot for the stigma of porn performers in general, it will do a lot for the plus-sized community and it will do a lot for the Latino community as well.” The other is a product line that will start with beauty products for women and “expand into clothing, makeup, skin care and then even men’s care, plus-sized men and women.”

She says with complete confidence, “If my fans were blown away by Brazzers, they’re going to be even more blown away by what’s coming.”
