Shelley Lubben of Anti-Porn Pink Cross Foundation Dead at 50

TULARE COUNTY, Calif.—Onetime porn performer Shelley Lubben, who later in life founded fanatical anti-porn organization the Pink Cross Foundation, died Saturday of undetermined causes, AVN has confirmed. She was 50.

Industry observer Michael Whiteacre, who has long tracked Lubben's anti-porn efforts and personal travails via the documentary and accompanying website The Devil and Shelley Lubben, reported the news Saturday evening of her death, which the Tulare County Coroner's Office verified to AVN Monday afternoon.

While the Coroner's Office was unable to divulge any further details about Lubben's death, Whiteacre reports on the above website that she "was found unresponsive by a male friend" Saturday morning at her residence in a trailer park located in the Lemon Cove neighborhood of Tulare County. The friend called 911, but by the time the responders arrived, they were unable to revive Lubben and pronounced her dead on the scene, according to Whiteacre. He added that the responders told the friend, and later Lubben's family members, that "she had passed due to an apparent overdose."

Lubben performed in 15 adult movies under the name Roxy between 1993 and 1995, according to IAFD.com. She began her anti-industry advocacy in 2005, and in 2008 instituted the Pink Cross Foundation, aimed at "healing lives from porn" through "the good news of Jesus Christ." In 2010, she published the autobiographical treatise Truth Behind the Fantasy of Porn: The Greatest Illusion on Earth, and in 2011 she became active in the AIDS Healthcare Foundation's first campaign to make the use of condoms mandatory in porn. Lubben's Pink Cross Foundation ceased operation in January 2016.
