Seymore Butts to Speak at USC

The University of Southern California's ninth annual Gender and Sexuality Week begins tonight at 7 with a keynote speech by none other than Seymore Butts, a.k.a. Adam Glasser.

Sponsored by the university's office of residential education, the campus-wide programming series seeks to expose students to different perspectives on gender and sexuality issues. According to the Gender and Sexuality Week events schedule, Glasser's speech will offer "an inside look on sex, politics, and his life as a pornography director, producer and free speech advocate."

Residence Coordinator Garrett Thompson, who runs the series as part of the Graduate, Upper-Class and Family Housing team, initially invited Glasser to participate in last year's USC series. "When I saw his show on Showtime [Family Business] I thought Adam would be a good speaker for Gender and Sexuality week," he said. "He'll be answering questions and discussing censorship and the porn industry."

Other speakers in the series include best-selling author Karin Staffans (Confessions of a Video Vixen), Sociology and Gender Studies and professors Brian Burns, Mary Andres and Michael Messner. The series also offers a nighttime field-trip to the gay Club Tigerheat, a "love boutique" adult-novelty get-together, and a closing "cuddle party" (www.cuddlela.com/usc.html).

Seymore's address will be held at USC's Seely G. Mudd hall in Room 124. For more information, visit the Gender and Sexuality week blog.
