Sexplorations: Senior Sex Never Gets Old

Some things never get old. Just because we get older doesn’t mean we stop wanting sex. A recent study of people over 65 found that 73 percent of them “have a romantic partner” and continue to get it on as they get older. Don’t stop, we say—sexy time can be great at any age.

The study, conducted by University of Michigan’s “National Poll on Healthy Aging” survey in association with AARP, surveyed 1,002 people 65-80 and asked them their level of sexual activity, quality and satisfaction. Thirty-one percent of the women surveyed said they were still “sexually active” (the politically correct term for “getting laid”), while 51 percent of men said the same. This should give everyone something to look forward to.

SEXY SENIOR SEARCHES SAY IT ALL

And what about the potential audience for this? As we age, do we want to see people our age or younger? “Preferences for content featuring older performers is definitely on the rise, as people open their minds beyond what Hollywood or Madison Avenue tells them what is beautiful,” says XHamster Vice President Alex Hawkins. “Because the majority of content on xHamster is amateur uploads, we tend to have a broader range of body types and ages than other sites—search terms like granny, and categories like ‘old and young’ have been consistently in our top ten. We even created a ‘Dream Girl’ for those who asked for someone over 60.” It’s never too late, ladies!

“What’s most interesting about this,” says Hawkins, “is that it’s not just young people looking for older content—it’s older people, men and women, who are growing more comfortable wanting to see themselves reflected on the screen. As porn becomes more accepted globally, we see the greatest growth in populations that are older, as well as women, This, more than anything else, changes the metrics.” Look for more “Sexy Glammas” and “Silver Foxes” penetrating the porn world! The good news for MILF performers who are getting older is that they can still work as GILFS.

Released by Wicked Pictures, jessica drake's Guide to Wicked Sex: Senior Sex offers co-creators Drake (above) and Joan Price a chance to work with real-life couples.

SEXY SENIOR SEX

Porn star Jessica Drake has teamed with 76 year-old author Joan Price, a sex educator and advocate for ageless sexuality, to co-create the new jessica drake's Guide to Wicked Sex: Senior Sex. “Sex has no expiration date” says Price, who believes “sexual pleasure should be life-long. Our bodies and our sexual responses, needs and desires change over time, and sex can still be gloriously satisfying.”

“This film shows seniors expressing themselves sexually, giving and receiving sexual pleasure as they do when they’re not on camera,” says Price. Communicating honestly and vulnerably about their needs and desires. It’s visual sex ed for seniors.” The film depicts a 72-year-old couple having sex in real life, “unscripted,” says Price.

WATCHING THE SENIORS GETTING IT ON

As I first started watching the sex scenes in Senior Sex my first thought was that I wasn’t used to watching a couple this old having sex, and that in the biggest female porn stars are 18-22.

But then as I continued watching them enjoy each other and give each other orgasms (they are a couple in real life, not performers), I realized how judgmental everyone is, especially the most obsessive twentysomething Instagrammers, who retouch every photo to make  themselves look perfect. The fact that these two couples, one 72 and the other 66 and 69, were just focusing on each other’s pleasure and orgasms and not even worried about how they looked was completely liberating. One of the reasons women (of all ages) avoid sex at different times in their lives is because they are ashamed of their imperfect or not-in-perfect shape bodies. Nobody is perfect. Body acceptance is the new sexual revolution. It’s hard to relax during sex if you’re thinking about how you need liposuction on your stomach.

The DVD proves that sex is the best when it is un-self-conscious and shameless. It also succeeds in showing how a mature couple (one who has been in a relationship for decades and another who just met each other) communicate effectively during sex. The DVD is a “rated X educational” video, but the two sexy senior couples in the video are my new favorite porn stars.

SEX ENHANCEMENTS THAT KEEP YOUR SEX LIFE FROM RETIRING

An issue that Joan Price brings up in Senior Sex is that sex for post-menopausal women can become painful because the vaginal opening can “close up” due to hormonal changes and less lubrication. For every sexual problem there is a solution. Cal Exotics has recently teamed up with OB/Gyn Dr. Sherry A. Ross, M.D, and introduced their “She-ology” line, after the title of Dr. Sherry’s book, She-ology, The Definitive Guide to Women’s Health. Period.

Dallas Novelty is one of the first to sell the line and says “She-ology is a collection of wearable vaginal dilators that are the first of their kind.” Designed to be used with water-based or coconut lube, these unique dilators are specifically designed to restore and revive vaginal strength and comfort. The five-piece set is also waterproof and ergonomically curved for ease of use. To help get things figured out a Vaginal Dilator guide from Dr. Sherry is included. The two largest dilators in this set can accommodate a vibrator, they note, to give a woman some pleasure while they’re at it. (Find the set on the CalExotics website as well.)

During a recent podcast with Wendy Miller’s Sex Ed, The Musical , Dr Sherry notes, “Using the dilators twice a week for 30 minutes helps 100 percent. By the time you’re having your Saturday night sex, you’re ready to go.” Dr. Sherry’s  second book, She-Ology, the She-Que, Let’s Continue the Conversation, hits bookshelves in February 2020.

“With the right information,” says Joan Price, “Women can have great sex into their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond.” This is good news, because when I’m 78 I want to have sex like I’m 28. With a 28 year-old.
