Industry veteran Ed Kail told AVN.com that even though his most recent job with Epic Interactive did not work out, he is still eager to sell quality adult product and would strengthen a company’s sales force immediately.
Kail, a Bronx, N.Y. native who has over 25 years of adult industry sales experience, recently collaborated with Empire Distributors’ Roy Karch (not the director of the same name) on his new production venture, Epic Interactive. But when an investor unexpectedly bowed out, both Karch and Kail realized they didn’t want to compromise their product or vision by producing cheaply made movies.
“I respect him for not wanting to do it cheap and dirty, and I wouldn’t want him to do it. If he did, I wouldn’t want to be associated with that, and he respects that,” Kail said. “Roy and I have fallen in love with each other. He loves me, I love him. It’s breaking his heart that it’s not going to fly, and I’m saddened by it myself. So I can’t expect him to employ me [as national sales manager].
"The company is not going to be launched, so there is no place for me here, and that puts me back on the market.”
Kail said that his strength is sales to distributors.
“I’d like to go with a company that has a fine product, not just a company looking for a sales manager that wants to sell cheap and dirty stuff,” Kail said. “I was with VCA Pictures for over 20 years, and I sold Elegant Angel [at Devil’s Film] for almost two years. That’s quality product. … My strength is in selling a manufacturer’s product to distributors, to wholesalers. I stopped selling stores 20-some odd-years ago.”
Kail initially started his career in adult with Caballero, when that company was perhaps the premier manufacturer in adult.
“I’ve been calling a few of my distributors, and [on Wednesday] I spoke to a number of distributors and everybody, with no exception, says it’s all about relationships,” Kail continued. “They told me, ‘I don’t know of a distributor that won’t pick up a telephone if your name is mentioned that you’re on the phone.’ I feel like I’m going to [a family dinner] every day when I come to work. They’re all like family to me. If I left a company, I don’t know that [the distributors] would discontinue dealing with that company, but they might knock down the product they buy, I don’t know.”
Kail said that his honesty when dealing with his customers has given him longevity in the business
“Packaging is important, and the product inside the package is important. Many times if I don’t have a top movie to sell, I’ll just say that to a customer. I level with my customers. I don’t lie to them. That’s why I kept them as customers for 25 years,” he said.
