Red Light District Signs Mark Wood to Direct

Red Light District has signed veteran director/performer Mark Wood to an exclusive directing contract. Wood told AVN.com that he entered into a one-year agreement Friday to direct exclusively for RLD, but he will still be able to perform for other companies.

“I’ve known Mark for over three years outside of the business,” Ralph Ceglia, executive vice president of sales and marketing for RLD, told AVN.com. “I believe that he’s a fantastic talent, and look forward to having him perform for us, as well as seeing his directorial debut for Red Light District.”

Wood said that he’s extremely happy to land at RLD. “I’ve known the Red Light District guys for a long time, as I’ve worked with them as a performer and built up a pretty good repertoire with the company,” Wood said. “I’ve hinted in the past that I’d like to do some directing work for them, because the market is so saturated right now, and I’m always trying to keep all my irons in the fire with owning a company, directing and acting.

“After a final conversation with RLD, they offered me the contract. We’d talked about the possibility before, but you try not to get your hopes up in this business. I’m definitely happy with how it turned out.”

Wood will be directing two titles a month for RLD, with the possibility of more. Red Light District plans to release Wood’s directorial debut in October.

Wood’s production companies, Nxt Levl Productions and LeWood Productions (both distributed by Juicy Entertainment), which Wood runs with AVN Hall of Famer Francesca Le, will now be run primarily by Le. “Both companies will still release titles, but I won’t direct any of them,” Wood said. “In the case of LeWood, Francesca will take over directing duties.”

“We’re extremely happy to have Mark Wood on board,” said Larry Schwarz, director of public relations for Red Light District. “He has over eight years of experience, both as a director and a performer.”

Wood said he’d like to become one of RLD’s new guard of directors in what he sees as a new phase for the production company. “I hope they bring on some more directors and we make this company stronger than ever.”
