Porn Producer Greg “Spanky” Shearer Passes Away

CLAREMONT, Calif.—Gay porn producer Greg Shearer, better known as Spanky, died on Saturday. He was 63 years old.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2-5 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Shannon Family Mortuary in Orange, Calif.

“While my family and I are deeply saddened by our loss, we are equally comforted knowing the Greg lived each and every day to the fullest, without any regrets,” his brother David Shearer posted on social media accounts.

Shearer, who himself estimated he has produced more than 600 movies in 12 years—including Million Dollar Tranny starring Hilary Skank, Harry Squatter and The Da Vinci Load—was a colorful character before and after his stint in adult. One of three children—he also has a sister—raised in Orange County, Shearer was an advanced student who took advanced placement courses while at Villa Park High School. That allowed him to enter Cal State Fullerton in 1975 to study applied criminal justice and public administration.

He worked for a time in the Long Beach Police Department, and often ran stings where he would pose as a male prostitute. It was there he earned his nickname Spanky, he once said, because he was the "youngest, shortest, fattest juvenile cop in the city I worked in."

He eventually found his way into the adult industry, where he worked in sales as well as a producer of gay porn, including the Spanky’s Boys line from Male Media One. He also served on the board of directors for the Free Speech Coalition, first being elected in 2006. At the time, he was the first openly gay FSC director in several years, and worked for more participation in FSC by others in the gay adult industry.

After leaving the industry a few years ago, Shearer dabbled in a few careers and hobbies, including securing reverse mortgages for senior citizens, especially LGBTQ seniors, and even stand-up comedy. He was known to take the stage at Flapper’s Comedy Club in Burbank on occasion, and a video of one of his stand-up routines can be found on YouTube.

He was also very active in the AA and NA programs over the years, and was a sponsor to many people in those programs, including many from the adult film community.

“He was an extremely upbeat and happy-go-lucky guy who always had a one-liner funny comment for every situation,” his close friend Marc told AVN.

“Greg Shearer: He was funny, considerate, cherished his dogs and loved to talk about deli food,” said Mara Epstein, senior executive director of sales for Zalo, who had worked with Shearer during his time in adult. “He will be missed.”

Those who wish to share thoughts or memories of Greg are welcome to do so at the memorial service on Saturday. Shannon Family Mortuary is located at 137 E. Maple St., Orange, CA 92866.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Greg’s name to his favorite charity, Eddie’s Kids. Eddie’s Kids is a nonprofit charity that provides sporting events ticket to deserving children, teachers and military men and women. For more, visit EddiesKids.org.
