'Nymphomaniac: Vol. I' Screens This Friday in Numerous Cities

LOS ANGELES—Porn-starved theatergoers without access to the internet can possibly still get their fill this Friday when the first volume of Lars von Trier's latest controversial feature, Nymphomaniac, opens for a one-night run at 19 theaters around the country. The movie, which includes an all-star cast that includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Stacy Martin, Connie Nielsen, Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman and Christian Slater, is being initially released in the United States in two parts, with the first running 117 minutes.

According to a brief synopsis on Moviefone.com, Nymphomaniac: Volume I is the story of Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac who is discovered badly beaten in an alley by an older bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård), who takes her into his home. As he tends to her wounds, she recounts the erotic story of her adolescence and young-adulthood (portrayed in flashback by newcomer Stacy Martin)."

In Southern California, there are several theaters to choose from, including the Nuart Theatre, at 11272 Santa Monica Boulevard, the closest for Angelinos. There are also screenings Friday in San Diego (Landmark Hillcrest Cinema) and San Jose (Camera 12), and farther north, the film will screen in San Francisco (Landmark Embarcadero Center Cinemas) and Oakland (Shattuck Cinemas).

Theaters on Friday will also be screening Nymphomaniac: Volume I in U.S. cities Denver, Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Miami Beach, New York, Cambridge and Philadelphia. Toronto will also host a screening.
