Nominations for 25th Anniversary AVN Awards Announced

CHATSWORTH, Calif. – Nominations were announced today for the 25th anniversary AVN Awards, scheduled for January 12 at the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas. Upload, the futuristic thriller from SexZ Pictures, led the pack with 22 nominations, including Best Video, followed by Vivid’s Layout, with 18, including Best Film.

Also scoring high were Evil Angel’s Fashionistas Safado: Berlin with 17, followed by Club Jenna’s Janine Loves Jenna and Wicked Pictures’ Operation Desert Stormy, each with 16. Rounding out the top vote-getters for video features were Wicked’s Coming Home (13), X-Play/Hustler's Not the Brady's XXX (13), Black Worm, from start-up company Pulpo Inc., (12) and Adam & Eve’s Eden (10).

In the film categories Vivid also got multiple noms for Debbie Does Dallas…Again (15), Sex and Violins (12) and Flasher (11). As previously reported, this is the last year for separate categories for releases shot on film.

The only non-feature to score in double-digits was Philip Mond’s Sinema, from Club Jenna, with 10 nominations, including Best High-End All-Sex Release, a newly named category this year.

“The AVN staff considered thousands of titles for nominations during the past six weeks,” said Dan Miller, AVN editor-in-chief. “We took into account the 6,000-plus reviews of new releases we did during the past 12 months as well as the releases we had never seen before we started this process. Every company that submitted materials for nominations had their movies watched.”

Awards will be given in 114 categories—two less than last year—and voted on by AVN writers and other adult film reviewers.

New categories include Best Internal Release and Best Internal Series, created to acknowledge the surge in production of “creampie” videos, previously included in the Best Specialty, Other Genre category.

Contract Star of the Year, a first-time category last year, has this year been merged with Female Performer of the Year.

Production companies nominated for awards should immediately mail or hand-deliver DVDs of each nominated title to AVN, 9414 Eton Ave., Chatsworth, CA 91311, Attention: Screeners Editor Tristen Pelton.
