New Security-Oriented Managed Protection Services: ISS

Aiming to meet expanding information security needs for small-to-medium businesses, Internet Security Systems launched an expansion of its Managed Protection Services suite May 11.

"Our SMB customers do not have the time, resources or budget to keep tabs on every aspect of security in order to keep their business operations online," said ISS vice president Rick Miller, announcing the expansion. "Simply put, SMBs just want to keep the malicious events and traffic away from their network, whether that is spam, hackers or worms. For less than 5 percent of the cost of employing an in-house security expert, organizations can have 24/7 guaranteed protection, allowing current IT staff to focus on core job responsibilities."

The suite's SMB expansion is aimed at businesses between five and 2,500 workers without the manpower, budget, or expertise to deal with increasingly complex Internet threats, ISS said, and costs as little as $350 a month for a service including firewall, gateway antivirus protection, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, and e-mail security. The company also guarantees a 24/7 level of protection with the new expansion.

"Unlike other service providers who rate themselves on their ability to manage security devices," a company announcement said, "ISS grades itself on the ability to protect, by offering guaranteed performance-based Service Level Agreements (SLAs)."

ISS was also given the Best Managed Security Services award in the recent SC magazine Global Awards 2004.
