LOS ANGELES—Hieronyvision, a new arts and entertainment site, is launching its innovative web magazine concept this week, and its creator Felix Werner has chosen “Love & Sex” as the theme for the launch, the centerpiece of which will be the original 13-episode Porn: A Series.
This new groundbreaking show is touted as an honest and unflinching look at the lives of the people who create porn. Never clichéd or exploitative, this is classic storytelling that gives a behind-the-scenes view of a complex and controversial business. The first season features adult film veterans Bree Daniels and Jenna J. Ross, along with newcomer Rose Ryan, as fictionalized porn stars working in the world of adult entertainment. The series chronicles the ups and downs of the three women’s lives as egos, attitudes and emotions must be maneuvered, and sometimes manipulated, on the road to success. The second season of Porn: A Series is already in production.
Created by Werner and his team at Modern Media Company, Hieronyvison is a site designed for those who want to explore and engage with an eclectic mix of cutting edge art and entertainment. It’s all meant as a place for new discoveries and the re-discovering of some older indie favorites.
The new online channel will encompass movies, music, art and anything else that moves the mind and soul. It’s an innovative package of new stories and digital media for the 21st Century with feature length films, experimental shorts, web series, thought-provoking video essays, interactive content and even those good old-fashioned written words. Call it all a “Channelzine”—as its creators jokingly do.
“My plan is to do an online arts magazine that’s fun, engaging and encourages a new generation of content creators to tell interesting stories in whatever format suits them best,” says Werner. “It’s a platform for young artists, but there will be some creative minds involved that you already know, and others that you should be reminded about.”
Werner, a successful independent media financer, who has had films at Sundance, Venice, Tribeca, SXSW, among others, sees Hieronyvision as a way to examine big issues by using all the creative tools now available in a multimedia universe.
“We want to explore bold themes in narrative, visual arts and music, all in a variety of new ways," Werner said. "We have a fun, creative community developing work that isn’t always polished or slick, but we like things a little rough around the edges here, as long as it shows that indie spirit that still takes chances and can go anywhere.”
As part of its first "issue," Hieronyvision will also include the feature films Mail Order Wife co-directed by Andrew Gurland and Huck Botko, Paul Dano and Zoey Deschanel in Gigantic directed by Matt Aselton, and The Failures directed by Tim Hunter. Along the way subscribers will also discover original video essays and be asked to add their thoughts and creative musings.
Hieronyvision is currently available to subscribers in monthly ($1.99) or quarterly ($4.99) plans with new content being added on a regular basis.
