Nectar Entertainment has been trumpeting the news about the company and its products through a promotional DVD called Club Zion, offered at no charge to stores and clubs.
"60 Minutes of Music and Video Eroticore" consists of softcore clips from Nectar-released Marty Zion movies, with music tracks by Jeffrey Bryan. Included are excerpts from the first volumes of his Mystified series.
The music video-style footage of porn girls dancing and teasing the camera contains no nudity but bears the legend www.nectarmovies.com across the bottom of the frame. Included on the disc are trailers that do contain hardcore footage.
Nectar CEO Sean Logan told AVN.com, "This is getting so much attention right now. Virgin is playing it, Tower is playing it, it's being played at fraternities and swing parties. It's the best of all the Zions: soft, no nipple, no cock, nothin' -- but it's beautiful stuff. When you walk into a club, instead of seeing ESPN or Sports Center you see this. It looks like a fashion show."
Clubs, Logan noted, can play it nonstop without worrying about license fees. Web retailers have been giving away a free copy with each purchase of a Nectar DVD.
Director Zion, a mainstream crossover, has created most of Nectar's talk-free, music video-style movies. Logan calls Zion's work "a step above [Andrew] Blake and [Michael] Ninn -- or comparable to them -- with outrageous sex."
Interest in the music tracks, all by Bryan, has been so great that Logan has packaged a free music CD with Mystified II: The Quest, and will continue that practice going forward. Mystified III: The Sorceress streets on September 13th, while a boxed DVD set of the Mystified trilogy will be released in January.
In addition to Zion's work, Nectar has another line, Welcome to the Valley, helmed by director Johnny Diablo. A reality-style series hosted by Dick Smothers Jr., Logan calls it "Jackass meets Jack's Playground."
Logan also noted that Nectar plans to come out with a "harder-edged gonzo line" in the near future.
