LOS ANGELES—Emma Hix is a natural blonde stunner, as anyone who's seen her perform can attest—and now she's been named as Penthouse magazine's May 2020 Penthouse Pet.
The model and adult performer can now add "Penthouse Pet" to her long list of accolades rewarding her reputation as one of the adult entertainment industry’s hardest working talents.
“When I got the call from Penthouse to shoot, I felt ecstatic!” Emma commented about the initial booking, which made her hopeful for being selected Pet of the Month. “I remember hearing the news the shoot was for POTM, and it made my eyes fill up with tears of joy. Not only was I excited, but I was extremely nervous leading up to the shoot date. But as soon as I got on set with the crew, all my nerves vanished.”
For the Canadian-born star, receiving the iconic key that welcomes her into the exclusive club of Penthouse Pets was a dream come true. “Being a Penthouse Pet has been my goal from Day One of entering the adult industry,” Emma confided. “It’s been a major goal.”
Emma believes that the Penthouse brand is special to her because the company is known worldwide for choosing the most naturally beautiful women.
“And me being insecure, I never thought I was gonna get it! I’m surprised, honored and speechless,” she added. “They are an icon and I am so grateful and proud to join a long line of Pet sisters.”
Penthouse Pets were an integral part of the Key brand since its founding by legendary photographer and erotica publisher Bob Guccione. The brand’s signature aesthetics of “natural beauties, amazingly photographed” continue being upheld by brand manager and “Pet wrangler” Sam Phillips, who is a storied Penthouse Pet herself.
Since the late 1960s, Penthouse has been an iconic quality men’s lifestyle magazine and brand, internationally renowned for its elite atmosphere and superior photography. Pet of the Month is considered by most adult models to be an incredible accomplishment that only a few selected beauties have attained.
“For my May 2020 pictorial, one of their legendary photographers, Tammy Sands, shot me on what I’d call my favorite set,” Emma explained about the exteriors shoot. “Like me, the photos are nature and very outdoorsy. They even took me to a huge birdcage and I got to do different positions with my body. We shot five sets that day and took full advantage of this dream location, up against a palm tree, by a lawn chair, by the pool.”
Emma is thankful to “a lot of people on set that day that made me feel truly special. Sam Phillips herself showed up at the very end, because she didn’t want to make me nervous. Sam is one of my favorite people; she’s been very helpful to me. She’s the one I look up to as the ideal of the Penthouse Pet, a very good person that through this whole process made me feel very welcome to the Penthouse family.”
The blonde beauty considers herself “super honored to have worked with a great talent like Tammy Sands. She knows all the ways to make a model feel great and feel beautiful through the demanding process of trying to look amazing on camera—never a simple job! She was very flexible with me, and explained to me what she was doing along the way.”
Sands made Emma feel included in the creating process, sharing a mood board that was very connected to her interests and to nature. “Tammy even let me involve a few of my ideas into the shoot, which a lot of photographers don’t usually do,” Emma said. “It was a very zen, very hippy kind of thing, and of course I loved it!”
The shoot was completed in early March, right before COVID-19 precautions forced everyone inside. This week, Penthouse managed to give Emma her Penthouse Pet key necklace in a quarantine-compliant ceremony.
“Being named Penthouse Pet of the Month, to me, it’s my biggest career achievement to date,” a visibly moved Emma concluded. “If one looks up the true definition of 'Penthouse', it means being at the top, as high as you can go.”
