LOS ANGELES—Mainstream movie news site MoviePilot.com reveled in a recent article at director Axel Braun's choice to cast all-girl performer Charlotte Stokely as Batwoman—who in the comic universe has been "out" since 2006 as a lesbian—for his upcoming Wicked Comix project Justice League XXX: An Axel Braun Parody.
Noting that Braun's “acknowledgement of the heroine's true sexuality is quite respectable,” MoviePilot.com's Ciara Pitts went on to say, “Many of Batwoman's fans, myself included, are desperate to see her be brought to life. She could have appeared in The CW's #Supergirl, due to her connection to Maggie Sawyer in the comics. Fox's #Gotham could be a perfect fit for her as well. Yet no one expected that the porn industry would beat them all to the punch!”
Stokely scored the role after sending Braun, in his words, “a phenomenal audition video,” and plans are already in the works for her to return for a full Batwoman XXX spin-off movie in 2018, which Braun revealed will be an entirely all-girl feature.
Providing a bit of back story on the character, Braun told AVN, "After being introduced in the '50s as a potential love interest for Batman in order to defuse rumors on the Dark Knight's possibly homosexual relationship with Robin, Batwoman was rebooted in 2006 as the first openly lesbian superheroine in the DC Comincs universe, so it was extremely important for me to cast a girl/girl only performer in the role. And even more important was to have somebody smart, strong, sexy, charismatic and 100 percent invested in the character.
"Charlotte showed me a level of commitment that I found impressive and refreshing," he continued, "She literally became Batwoman."
He also noted that response to the first picture of Stokely in the Batwoman costume (as seen above)—which he tweeted on "Batwoman Day," June 21—was "flabbergasting," garnering over 1,100 likes and 400 retweets in under 24 hours, making it "by far my most liked tweet ever."
Justice League XXX: An Axel Braun Parody is scheduled to release August 16.
