AVN Hall of Famer Mitch Spinelli has launched a new company called Demolition Video, harder than Rain, the banner he formerly released videos under, but softer than Acid Rain, his extreme hardcore imprint.
And yes, it’s basically the same company he tried to launch at the beginning of May under the name Devious Pictures. Unfortunately it turned out that the name he had chosen was already taken – gonzo studio DVSX is Devious Sex, with all of the vowels dropped.
It didn’t help that the lettering for Devious Pictures was the same font that DVSX uses.
“It’s sort of silly, but I really don’t think some times,” Spinelli told AVN.com, admitting his mistake. “Devious Pictures just kind of came to me, I had no idea that there was a connection between the two. DVSX, everyone pronounced it ‘D-V-S-X.’
“My artist emailed the image to you [AVN.com] without me really proofing it. When I saw it that Monday morning [May 2, when the article announcing the formation of Devious was published], I knew it looked really bad. It was totally the same font.
“I crawled under my desk and said, ‘Mom, bolt the door,’” Spinelli quipped.
When Javier C, co-owner of DVSX called that morning, Spinelli already knew what it was about. “I’ve known Javier for a really long time, and he’s a nice guy. I told him I’d change the name and I apologized,” Spinelli said.
Thus, the new studio was renamed Demolition Pictures; a name that Spinelli says has never been used in adult video. “I checked,” he said.
Spinelli has shut down Rain, the gonzo company he launched in 1997. His company will now be twofold: Demolition Pictures and Acid Rain, his high-end, extreme hardcore spin-off of Rain.
Demolition videos will be hardcore, but not extreme in nature. Spinelli intends to create new girl-driven series for Demolition, with an emphasis on fresh faces.
“Everything today, the focus is on new. Rain is a good old car, we tried to give it a new paint job. But it’s still an old car,” Spinelli said, explaining the reason for shutting down Rain. “With Demolition, the content is a little harder and the titles are a little edgier and hopefully it will be a little more competitive.“
Spinelli has decided not to direct any more himself, opting to hire new directors instead.
Little Titties, Tight Holes is the first title from Demolition Video, shipping on June 1. Upcoming titles include Bangin’ the Girl Next Door and 18 Legal and Latin
