For the third consecutive time, Mick Blue won the AVN Award for Male Performer of the Year. And he admitted to AVN, a few days after the win, "When they opened the envelope, I was like, 'Shit, what am I going to say now?' I never plan what to say because I'm a little bit superstitious, so if it really happens I'm so happy, whatever comes out of my mouth—I just let it go. When they said my name, I was like 'Wow! Yes! That's awesome!' and the first thing I was able to think of was to thank my wife, Anikka. I truly believe that with any kind of business you're only as good as your first, biggest supporter and in my case my first, biggest supporter is Anikka. I have to honor her for this award, that's the first thing that came in my head. Without her support, it would never have been possible."
From the stage that night, Blue said, "Thank you so much to everybody. I am the most lucky man in the universe, I think. The reason I say this is because when I look back six or seven years, I had the wrong woman in my life. And then I met Anikka Albrite, the most amazing, loving woman you can imagine. She turned my life around, and that's the reason I'm standing here now. Every single man in this category—I love you all. You're all artists, like Greg Lansky said. You're amazing at what you do. Every one of us deserves this prize. ... Thank you so much to all the performers that I worked with, to all the directors, every single one. It doesn't matter how big the project is, I'm thankful to be able to show the talent I have and I'm looking forward to 2017 ... Keep our industry great."
Blue told AVN, "As we got closer to the Awards I was hoping that maybe I could win it one more time ... but I was not thinking that it would happen. Like I said on stage, all the other guys in the same category are great in his own way. Anybody can win. You just have to see what happens on the stage and be happy for whoever wins. That I was able to make it again was a huge thing, and unexpected at the same time, for which I am so grateful."
Asked his plans for 2017, Blue said "First, get over this cold. Then, just do what I love to do. I'll be working as much as I did in the past years. I love all of it, to a certain degree. If I'm directing for two months, then I need to do something else I enjoy: Just go on a set and do a scene here and there. Not have to think about all the commitments around directing. At the same time, if I only go on set and do scenes for too long, I don’t feel completely challenged and I want to direct and create. The balance of all things together is the right mixture.
"My goal is to try and do my best, and I hope I'm going to be a good competitor for the guys in 2018."
