LOS ANGELES—Mick Blue will race in the 2018 National Auto Sport Association (NASA) Championships this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
The race on Sunday will be live-streamed so fans of the three-time AVN Male Performer of the Year can follow his track position in real time.
“We are definitely one of the favorites for the Nationals,” Blue told AVN Wednesday. “We just need to keep it together. The last two weeks were stressful because we had to get the car ready and anything can happen.”
Blue, a native of Austria who is the only man in history to win the adult industry’s top male performing award in three consecutive years (2015-17), last year started pursuing his dream of professional motor racing in between producing, directing and performing in about 25 sex scenes per month.
The NASA Championships will be the most high-stakes race weekend of his career behind the wheel.
Sponsored by Bad Dragon and The Sandwich Spot, Blue will be driving a souped-up 1993 Mazda Miata—reaching top speeds of 120 mph on the world-renowned 3.427 mile road course—for Team Abergel Motorsports. He will be competing in racing class PTE, the Performance Touring division of NASA; there will be eight cars in Blue's race group.
After eight races this year, Team Abergel/MB Racing is leading the points in NASA’s Southern California PTE class. Blue, who drives car No. 20, placed second in his last two races.
This will not be Blue’s first time doing hot laps around the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), the same track that hosts the annual U.S. Grand Prix Formula One race.
In December, Blue and his team placed third at the World Racing League event at the same circuit, where he completed 80 laps. While that experience gives him added confidence, every race weekend is different and this is for the national championship.
“I’m getting a little bit nervous to be honest because you know how good the car is on the local track but you don’t know how good the car is on COTA,” Blue admitted. “We will see. Racing there is also going to be tricky because the weather conditions can change. We had to get rain tires just in case and I don’t have too much experience racing in the rain. That’s what’s going on in my mind.
"When it comes to the race itself, I’m confident in my abilities. I have very good racecraft and I’m very strong at the start. Anything is possible in the start. In the race I need to find a good rhythm and stay in the top 3. Toward the end I can be more aggressive. Also keep in mind sometimes patience pays off more than making irrational decisions.”
Blue, who will also compete in the time-trial event Friday and qualifying Saturday, said he would be coached this weekend by three-time National Champion road racer, Dan Gardner.
“We are aiming for an average speed around 80-83 mph,” Blue said. “Team owner Sam Abergel did an amazing job with his team to get the car ready for this championship and I am super happy to be part of his team. A huge thanks also to Mike Faulk, who is very well known in our industry from events like Exxxotica, for bringing our car safe to Austin, Texas, Circuit of the Americas.”
