Michael Brandon to Judge 'American Penis' Contest

In an effort to educate gay men on the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases, gay adult film star Michael Brandon will be one of three judges of an audition/contest to cast an upcoming television commercial. Dubbed "American Penis," the "stiff competition" will take place on Monday, March 1. Winners get to provide the voices of a Healthy Penis and Phil, the Syphilis Sore.

A take-off of the popular Healthy Penis campaign, which has been running in San Francisco for over a year to good results, the goal of the TV spot is, according to Better World Advertising creative director Les Pappas, "for gay men to incorporate regular syphilis testing into their routine so that syphilis can be treated and stopped." Pappas went on to say that Brandon volunteered to judge for the auditions, and added, "Michael's popularity will be a big draw, and his commitment to health issues will help set the tone for this event."

"I believe this is a great cause to help raise awareness in the community," Brandon told AVN.com. "Just since getting involved and having it on my Website, folks have been asking questions. That's what it's all about!"

"Sex is nasty, sex is fun, but sex can also have some downsides to it," he continues. "That's all part of it. Let's be responsible. Let's make ourselves and the folks around us aware. That way, sex can be much more fun and much more nasty! Yummy!"

In addition to Brandon, other judges will include drag artist Suppositori Spelling and a surprise special guest. Auditions will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the San Francisco Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual-Transgender Center at 1800 Market St. For more information, contact [email protected], or see www.healthypenis2004.org.
