Melissa's Cable Gig

It sounds good. Melissa Monet just wrapped up two films for one of Roger Corman's production companies, Click Productions. "I'm basically making the same kind of movie," she laughs. Monet, of course, has directed porno and these two productions fall pretty much in the same territory, she says, although they're destined for a cable series [Showtime or Cinemax, she wasn't sure which].

One feature's called Sexual Magic, earmarked for The Sex Files; the other is titled Wall Street for The Scandal Series.

"I was really lucky," Monet explains. "I had been in some of the movies a few years back. I had heard they were looking for directors, particularly female directors. I went in with all the little movies I've directed so far in the porn business and showed it to the guys over there. They really liked what I've done. They gave me a shot. I could have gotten more movies if I came in the door a little bit sooner. But they promised me more for next year."

Keeping herself busy? Not a problem, Monet also has a site - virtualpinups.com plus she also writes for a few health and fitness magazines, particularly a new publication, Body International. "That should be on the newsstands very shortly," she says. Monet's also an associate editor for Power House Magazine.

Monet left the real world where she was a Chief Financial Officer, to enter porn in 1994. "It's called burnout," she says. "I worked my whole life. I started working at the age of 12. I came from a pretty poor family, and my father said, 'Oh you want this? I don't have a money tree in the backyard. You better go out and work for it.' So I did it. I worked my whole life. Then I saw my 30th birthday approaching. I said, 'Whoa, I got to get out of this place. I moved to Hawaii and lived on a surfboard for awhile. During my little hiatus from life, I read about a thousand books, surfed, ran, played. Then I said better get back to work. I came to California and got in the porn business."
