Logan Pierce Releases First Book

LOS ANGELES—Logan Pierce started making notes about his career in adult entertainment almost four years ago, laying the foundation for his new semi-autobiographical book.

The 2013 AVN Best Male Newcomer award-winner, who celebrated his 27th birthday Tuesday, this week released Between the Sheets: Rise of a Working Stiff with source material culled from his experiences on set performing in more than 500 sex scenes since January 2012.

Pierce says the self-published book is the first of what he intends to be at least a three-part series.

“It’s autobiographical fiction is how I’ve been categorizing it,” Pierce, who writes under the pseudonym J.R. Verlin, told AVN Wednesday. “It’s about Logan Pierce and it’s following the real framework of my life, but I took a lot of artistic liberty with other characters and place and time. I was trying to tell the best story, not necessarily beholden to fact. It does follow my trajectory through adolescence into the business.

“Along the way certain characters are composites of people I’ve met. One character might be a composite of 10 different people. There are a few names that are recognizable but more so company names. It’s set against the backdrop of reality.”

Between the Sheets takes readers through Pierce’s pre-porn life all the way through the end of his first year in the business.

“There are some ups and downs and a few little victories,” Pierce said. “It ends on a positive note that now this is part of my life. Now I am a contributing member to this society. This industry is my second home and I can only go deeper from here.

“He fully grasps and appreciates where he’s come from and what he has achieved and where he hopes to go. The only place to go is forward in the industry.”

Pierce, a former college student who studied Film, moved to LA from his hometown of Philadelphia originally to take part in an internship program. Before arriving he pitched himself to a few adult performers and talent agencies in hopes that he might catch a break.

“It was a dream of mine since I was a kid,” Pierce said. “A few people got back to me. Some shut the door, but very thankfully one agency that no longer exists gave me a chance. I drove out here with the full intention of going to school and interning and trying my hand in porn. That first scene—on my second day in LA—went well and through word of mouth I got a second scene and then a third scene…Now almost it’s almost six years later and this is my full-time job.”

Pierce now performs in three to five scenes a week, holding down a spot in the regular rotation for studios such as New Sensations, Sweet Sinner, Zero Tolerance, Erotica X, Team Skeet, Nubiles, Metro and 21st Sextury, among others.

Thanks to his range as an actor and performer, he has emerged as a go-to guy for seasoned feature directors such as Jacky St. James, James Avalon and Dana Vespoli.

Prior to coming to LA, Pierce worked for six months as a projectionist in his college’s movie theater.

“They had a one-screen theater that sat maybe 100 people,” Pierce said. “They were still threading 35mm and sometimes 16 mm prints, so I was just up in the booth for late nights threading the film, writing on my laptop, doing homework and watching movies.”

Before that, Pierce took care of dogs and cats at a pet hotel for three years.

“On a daily basis we would have about 80 dogs and about 10 cats,” Pierce said. “My responsibility was to walk them and bring them all into the playroom, feed them and clean up after them. In retrospect it was an amazing job just hanging out with dogs and cats all day. I started that job when I was 18.”

His job history also includes bussing tables, working on a food truck, cleaning offices after-hours and cashiering at a produce shop. But one thing that’s been constant is Pierce’s love for the written word.

“I fell in love with the movie The Crow. I must’ve been 10 years old when I saw it and probably shouldn’t have been watching it. But I was just in awe watching this film,” Pierce recalled. “It was at that point I became obsessed with movies and filmmaking. I moved onto classics like Taxi Driver, Goodfellas and The Boondock Saints—that is really what kind of inspired me in terms of storytelling.

“When I was 13 or 14 my friends and I were writing short screenplays and we would shoot them and release them on YouTube or never at all because something would always happen. Then I joined the Drama Group and was acting all throughout high school and my writing continued. Storytelling was my first love in whatever capacity I could do it in. I love to entertain and see people captivated and to tell a story.”

Pierce said as long as he remains in the porn business “my story never really ends.”

"I'll always be gathering more material," he added.

Between the Sheets is available for purchase now on Amazon and CreateSpace as well as Carter Cruise’s website and Pierce’s site, WhoIsLogan.com.

Cruise, the 2015 AVN Best New Starlet, dedicated a recent blog entry to the book.

“She’s wonderful, one of the greatest people in the business—period. For her to do that I’m forever indebted to her,” Pierce said.
