AVN Award-winning director Laurent Sky and his wife Nora have started their own production and distribution companies, Sky World Production and Sky World Direct.
Their first production for the new companies is scheduled to be released in late September or early October. It is as yet untitled, but Sky contends it will be different from anything adult has seen before. Sky said he’s been working on it for the past four months and that part of it was shot in Prague and the rest is being shot here in the Los Angeles area.
“When it comes out, it will definitely look like something very different,” the French-born Sky, who came to adult last year by way of a fashion photography background, told AVN.com. “It’s still a sex movie, but the look is extremely different.”
Even different from his AVN Award-winning line, Fetish, for Ninn Worx, and his critically acclaimed Hustler’s Taboo for Hustler Video (directed under the name Richard Hamilton) — both highly distinctive, highly stylized productions in their own rights.
“They were edgy,” Sky said, “but they weren’t slick” like music videos or the fashion market, he said. “No one in adult is shooting anything slick like that, so I want to be the first one.” The first Sky World production will utilize high-end special effects and even some animation, he noted.
With Sky World Production, he said, “I want to raise the bar so that there is no competition possible. My philosophy is being totally different, totally edgy and extremely stylized. We build sets from scratch. Sometimes we take a week to build a set. No one [in adult] does that. And I work with two special effects companies, one is in Santa Monica, one is in Venice, close to my studio here in Culver City,” a relatively short distance from the San Fernando – aka Porn – Valley.
Besides distributing Sky’s titles, Sky World Direct, meanwhile, has also started distributing the titles of new women-oriented production company Inpulse Pictures (Velvet Thrust) and new couples-oriented Club Magazine Presents (Gina Lynn Reinvented). Sky directed the latter title under the name Lorenzo Santini, and has directed two more Club productions (with more on the way), both also starring Club contract girl Lynn, that are due to be released in coming months. They do not yet have titles.
Sky said he would also continue to direct for Hustler Video, for whom he is under contract to helm the Taboo and Hustler Centerfolds lines. The debut volumes of each series were AVN Editor’s Choices in respectively, the upcoming September issue and the August issue.
After Sky’s one-year contract with Ninn Work expired, he and AVN Hall of Famer Michael Ninn’s production company parted ways amicably, he said.
“We did some very creative things with the [three-volume] Fetish line,” Sky said. “I think we raised the bar a little bit and brought a new product to the market, looking very different than anyone else. And that was the only thing I wanted to do with Ninn Worx.” The debut volume of Fetish is AVN’s reigning Best All Sex Video.
Carly Milne, a spokeswoman for Pure Play Media, which distributes Ninn Worx product, concurred that the split was amicable. “I know Michael thinks the moon and the stars of Laurent and that he believes Laurent will be incredibly successful” with his own company, she said.
