Kick Ass Art Show Attracts Hundreds

The second Kick Ass Pictures in-warehouse art show was held Friday night and into Saturday morning, featuring a combination of art, porn star bartenders and a DJ.

The unlikely venue brought in 500 people by midnight and hundreds more by the time the crowd gradually dissolved to a couple dozen after 3 a.m.

DJ Flowers spun records while scantily clad bartenders Destiny Summers, Vanessa Lane, Dillan Lauren and Lyla Lei served up drinks for the thirsty and surprisingly non-porn crowd. While performers Ashley Blue, Jonni Darkko, Cuntré, Tone Capone and performer and LA Direct Models owner Ben English, former AVN writer and Hustler Erotic Video Guide columnist, Wally Wharton, Playboy TV execs, and new Exodus singer Rob Dukes made appearances, the crowd was mostly art types.

Artists Andrea Young, Christopher Kuhn, Patrick Haemmerlein and Slivia Spross each had their work on display. By the end of the night, dozens of the pieces – which sold from anywhere from $40 to $2500 – that adorned the walls of the Kick Ass warehouse had been sold. One purveyor even attempted to commission a larger version of a Spross painting, though the artist was not on hand at the time.

Conspicuously absent was Kick Ass contract performer Mary Carey, who Jef Hickey, the company’s publicist said was in San Antonio signing at a tattoo convention.

“It’s an entirely different crowd,” Kick Ass owner Mark Kulkis told “This is an art crowd, the porn community doesn’t really come out for this type of event.”

Kulkis said that he was very pleased with the turnout, which was larger than the company’s first art-show-in-the-porn-warehouse endeavor with the several hundred people attending throughout the night.

Those who timed their attendance correctly not only got to see some fine art in a decidedly unusual place, but they also got to see the bartenders as they Hu-la-Hooped completely nude on top of the bar. Dillan Lauren, considered by many the best of the Hoopers, told that she had learned for the first time earlier in the day. But she pointed out that it is little more than a thrusting motion, which is something that she practices on a regular basis with her day job.
