Industry Veteran D. Wise Passes Away

LOS ANGELES—Adult industry veteran Devon Wise, who was known as D. Wise, passed away this morning in New Jersey, his close friend and fellow producer/director, Lil Freak, told AVN. He was 50.

Wise suffered a pulmonary embolism in June 2015 that left him with damaged lungs and a traumatic brain injury. He was cared for in a rehabilitation facility until his death, Lil Freak said.
Born in Queens , N.Y., Wise started his adult entertainment career as a talent recruiter and manager in the mid 1990's. He later transitioned into performing, producing and directing.  

Wise founded two companies—Global Management and his production company, Cheeky Pictures. Under the Cheeky Pictures imprint he produced DVD series such as Chasing White Booty that was distributed by Notorious Productions/Multimedia Pictures. Wise racked up about 150 performing credits beginning in the early 2000s for studios such as Sensational Video, Sticky Video, Cherry Boxxx, West Coast Productions, Pure Filth, Multimedia and Elegant Angel. He also directed more than 10 titles, including five volumes of Chasing White Booty in 2006, as well as produced for Forty Plus, Shooting Star and Sensational Video, among others. He was honored by the Urban X Awards for "inspirational tribute" in 2018, Lil Freak added.

"He introduced many people to the industry," Lil Freak said. "From talent to cameramen to editors."

Wise in 2011 moved back to New York, where he organized a small group of independent performers to work under him, creating content for their clips stores and websites. 

He is survived by his family and numerous friends in the industry.
