iBill Joins In "Verified By Visa" Program

iBill plans to offer clients a chance to take part in a new "Verified by Visa" pay process program, letting consumers create unique passwords to be required where they buy.

"When the end user attempts to make an Internet purchase, special software installed on the signup page will recognize VISA cards that have been registered," iBill said in a May 29 statement. "The consumer will then be prompted to key their unique password before a purchase can be approved. The entire process is Web-based, so there is no need for consumers to install software."

A day earlier, Netbilling, Inc. announced that it was implementing the Verified by Visa program, which they said was aimed at cutting back on merchant liability and chargeback protection. Netbilling made that announcement in hand with saying it was expanding its Fraud Defense tools package.

"Having the proper fraud tools and full control over their use allows internet merchants to minimize fraud while maximizing sales. Netbilling’s multiple fraud filters including location verification, and now Verified by Visa, allows merchants to conduct online transaction processing with confidence," said Netbilling chief executive officer Sarah Farber in a statement.
