A feature article in today's Salt Lake Tribune profiled Brent Ward, the former U.S. Attorney from Utah who now heads the Justice Department's Obscenity Prosecution Task Force.
In the 1980s, Ward testified before the Meese Commission and went on to work closely with the Attorney General in his efforts to shut down the adult industry. Ward was the last U.S. Attorney to attempt to prosecute Adam & Eve under the Justice Department's multi-jurisdiction prosecution plan, which was later ruled illegal by U.S. District Judge Joyce Hens Green.
"We're not going to prosecute [porn] away, but it's important, I think, that Americans see their government trying to do something about it," Ward told the Tribune.
The article details the federal government's current "bid to revive obscenity prosecution," citing the recent case against Girls Gone Wild mogul Joe Francis as an example of Ward's influence.
