<i>Pirates</i> Wins VSDA Adult Title of the Year

The Digital Playground and Adam & Eve co-production of Pirates has won the Adult Title of the Year award at the Video Software Dealers Association Home Entertainment Awards show. The movie also won Best Overall Production - Adult Product.

The honor, announced in a ceremony at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas Tuesday night, marked the latest in a long string of awards for the swashbuckling feature starring Jesse Jane, Carmen Luvana, Janine and Austyn Moore. It included 11 AVN awards in January and three X Rated Critics Association awards in April.

“VSDA only presented two adult awards this year and to have received both of them is a huge honor,” said Joone, who directed the feature and who is also Digital Playground’s founder.

“I’d like to thank all of our video distributors who have contributed to the visibility and success of this project.”

Other titles in the adult category were The New Devil in Miss Jones by Vivid Entertainment, Prisoner, Cal Vista/Metro; Dark Angels 2, New Sensations; and Camp Cuddly Pines Power Tool Massacre, Wicked Pictures.

The association, which is holding its annual exposition this week, hosted the awards Tuesday night. It featured 130 nominations in 26 categories.

“Our Home Entertainment Awards recognize those DVD and video game titles that have excelled in various categories,” said association president Bo Andersen.

“The awards also recognize and celebrate the extraordinary creative and strategic vision necessary to bring a product to the consumer in the highly competitive home entertainment market.”

Among other award winners were the mainstream films Crash, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Walk the Line and March of the Penguins.

Pirates was originally released in September and shot on location in California and off the coast of Florida with high-definition 24p cameras, earning it AVN Awards for Best Video, Best DVD, and Best High Definition Production, plus Best Director, Video, as well as three acting awards and four others.

Pirates also won XRCO awards for Best Release, Best Epic and Best Director as well as a slew of other honors from several industry organizations.

It tells of the mystical journey through haunted seas by a group of hotties who must battle skeleton warriors and a pirate whore.

Featuring lots of special effects and 10 sex scenes, the title also features Teagan Presley, Devon and Jenaveve Jolie.

Pirates is also noted for received an R-rating in May from the Motion Picture Association of America for worldwide distribution.

Pirates is currently listed no. 29 in AVN’s Top 50 Rental & Sales list, having moved up from 32 last week after 40 weeks on the chart.
