NY Post: Francis Interested in Buying Playboy

Joe Francis, founder and president of Girls Gone Wild, is said to be interested in acquiring Playboy Enterprises, the New York Post’s Page Six reported today.

Francis is said to be interested in buying Hugh Hefner’s Playboy empire which includes pay-per-view cable channels, its production studio and facilities along with its publishing and licensing units

Bill Horn, a spokesman for Francis, would not comment.

Francis started Girls Gone Wild in 1997 by showing girls exposing their breasts to the camera in a series of low-end videos taken during spring break in Florida and elsewhere.

The videos proved to be a hit as the mail-order franchise has grown to more than 200 videos.
