LOS ANGELES—In its January issue, Glamour magazine features 15 women whose careers fall under the broad term of “sex work,” and many are names well known in the adult industry. According to the piece’s author, Lynsey G., “The real stories of webcam models, dominatrices, and porn stars are often very different from the tropes we see in flashy (and often irresponsible) headlines abut sex, drugs, and crime. In fact, plenty of sex workers truly love what they do.”
Among those featured prominently are iWantEmpire financial domination artists Bratty Nikki and Goddess Haven (above, right and left); adult stars Eva Lovia, Chelsea Poe (above, top and bottom insets), Ariana Marie and Misty Stone; performer/directors Jessica Drake, Kayden Kross (center insets), Brett Rossi and Madison Young; webcam performers Angela Demir, Delice, Gabby Daniels, Jessica Sage; and performer/cammer/blogger Harriet Sugarcookie.
Each person interviewed talks about the postive aspects of their work, and the opportunities it’s provided—including financial solvency (Ariana Marie), “writing, performing stand-up comedy, and animal rescue” (Brett Rossi), “a platform to represent my sexuality on my own terms” (Chelsea Poe), “an extension of both my art and activism in creating social change and dismantling sexual shame and stigma” (Madison Young), and opening up “a Japanese pub that serves only ethically raised meat, sustainably caught seafood, and local organic produce” (Eva Lovia).
Jay Phillips, vice president of iWantEmpire, shared his thoughts on the inclusion of Bratty Nikki and Goddess Haven in the feature. “We are extremely proud of Nikki and Haven for sharing their personal stories with Glamour’s readers,” said “They each brought an insightful and fresh perspective of their experiences as artists on the iWantEmpire platform, which will give readers a greater understanding of the benefits of independent entrepreneurism.”
Bratty Nikki, who is also co-founder of iWantEmpire, told Glamour writer Lynsey G., “I couldn’t be happier with my career choice as a financial dominatrix. [For] a young woman, it’s rare to be financially free and independent and have stability,” Bratty Nikki told the magazine. “I feel very grateful to be in such a position. It’s also really cool to have a limitless creative outlet, knowing I’ll never be bored or face the same boring routine day to day. My job is always interesting!”
Goddess Haven shared her thoughts as well, saying, “I’m so grateful that it’s so easy for me to be able to help other people. I nap all day, yet my bank account is always growing! I’m able to travel the world, be cultured, see new things. I wish everybody could experience the great things I have with findom."
