LOS ANGELES/MONTREAL—Gamma Films Group has renewed Seth Gamble’s exclusive contract for a second year, the company announced Friday. Under the extended deal, the three-time AVN Best Actor and 16-year industry veteran will continue performing for Wicked Pictures and the other brands within the Gamma portfolio—including Adult Time and Pure Taboo—as well as directing for Wicked, and co-directing several Adult Time projects with Bree Mills.
Gamble, whose accolades as a performer include two-time XRCO Best Actor, and two-time XRCO Male Performer of the Year, initially signed with the Montreal-based production conglomerate in March 2021. Since then, he has appeared in some of its most prestigious releases, including Wicked’s Black Widow XXX: An Axel Braun Parody, which took home several trophies at the 2022 AVN Awards, including Best Featurette and the first-ever Mark Stone Award for Outstanding Comedy.
Gamble made his directing debut for Wicked with the AVN Editor’s Choice The Red Room, followed by his first feature, the elaborate eight-part limited series Deranged. Both were produced by four-time AVN Director of the Year—and Wicked Head of Production—Axel Braun.
"I'm incredibly grateful to be surrounded by such gifted professionals, because acting gets you a front row seat to every department,” Gamble said. “One of the advantages of acting is, it’s an up-close view of how everyone works; how great directors work, how the finest cinematographers work. You can ask a lot of questions and learn their work ethic, and that’s basically paid training.
“This past year couldn’t have been better, and the whole experience remained true to the spirit of why I chose to make Gamma my home,” he continued. “So much of any creative pursuit involves protecting the core of who you are and what you set out to do, which requires surrounding yourself with a like-minded, talented and motivated group of people. Axel Braun and Bree Mills are by far the most creative forces in the industry, and I am very grateful for the inspiration, protection and encouragement they constantly provide me with.”
Prior to signing with Gamma last year, Gamble had worked with Braun on some of the most-awarded bestsellers in industry history, including the leads in such Wicked blockbusters as Deadpool XXX: An Axel Braun Parody and Braun’s black-and-white epic The Possession of Mrs. Hyde, which won five AVN awards, including a record-breaking fourth Movie of the Year for the director.
“Seth has a winning mentality, and he applies that to everything he does,” Braun enthused. “The expectations were very high when we signed him and he surpassed them all, not only as a performer and actor, but also as a director. Deranged is literally a cinematic masterpiece ... and that’s his first feature! There is no doubt he is an extremely talented filmmaker, and on top of that he is passionate, committed and laser-focused. There is literally nobody else in the industry today who can bring to the table what Seth does, and we are all thrilled to continue our partnership with him."
On top of performing and directing, Gamble will now also be serving as an Associate Producer on all Wicked shoots.
“I have always valued Seth’s contribution, energy and perspective on my movies,” Braun praised, ”and I want to offer that value to all my other directors, which is why I have decided to transition him into this new role. He’s always been an integral part of my creative process, and while he is obviously very comfortable with me due to our personal friendship, I wanted to make sure he’d feel free to offer his input to everybody else who directs for Wicked without fearing to overstep. Being a producer is a role that carries a lot of responsibility and accountability, and that I know he will take very seriously as he always does with everything else.”
Of this new role under Braun's tutelage, Gamble commented, “Once again, I must thank Axel for his continued support as Head of Production for Wicked and, most importantly, as my friend. "Bree and I have the same passion for filmmaking,” Gamble said. “I think one of a filmmaker’s most important tools is psychology. You want to be able to capture humanity in your stories and the best way to do that is through exploring the psychology of your characters. I like to put characters under the microscope, and perhaps go one or two layers farther down than someone else might. To recognize yourself in a character on screen, and to connect with them, you have to recognize their flaws; they have to feel like a real person.”
Gamble’s current project, Deranged, features his real-life wife Kenzie Taylor—the titular star of Wicked's award-winning hit Captain Marvel XXX: An Axel Braun Parody—opposite reigning AVN Best Actor Tommy Pistol as Dr. Joseph Curwen, a renowned, albeit controversial, psychologist. Taylor portrays Charlie, a fellow psychologist whose unrelenting desire to meet Dr. Curwen is soon revealed to be ominous, obsessive ... and deadly.
