"Somehow, for the past two years, right before I graduated high school, sex and the [adult] genre kind of creeped up in my life," Vina Sky remembers. "Every time I was at school or out in public I would notice men would stare at me or compliment me or stuff like that. I job-hopped a lot, and I figured I could probably make money off this. I thought—financially, logically and statistically—that there aren't many Asians in the industry, especially Vietnamese. That could mean there's a higher demand, especially if you're a good performer. I want to be that Vietnamese girl who isn’t just known for porn, but was able to have the mindset and the mentality to stick with what I want in life as a person."
Having set her course, Sky acquired knowledge of her chosen work: "I webcammed, I worked at a sex shop. I gained some knowledge of the genre and thought, 'How can I make a living out of what I know already?' Initially I did porn out of curiosity, not expecting to like it, and then I shot my first scene and really fell in love with it."
She didn't like camming "when I didn't have a name for myself. You had to fish in people, and I didn't enjoy sitting there playing with myself for 10 hours. There was nothing turning me on about that. It was tiring and I knew webcamming wasn't my thing. I liked the little things; putting on makeup, getting dressed up, presenting myself a certain way. I liked that."
When Sky moved from webcamming to video performing she hit the ground running, estimating that she had done "more than 30, maybe 45" scenes in her first two months. A scene a day? "Pretty much. I've been shooting almost eight weeks in a row. Four days off. Maybe five. But I like it."
Asked what she likes about performing, Sky responds with a straightforward appraisal of her commercial appeal: "I like that I'm small and I can literally take big dick. I haven't done IR, but I know I can. I like the fact that I have an innocent look going on, and I'm petite and you don't expect it, and the camera's rolling and I'm a whole other person: The small girl that can take a great big dick. Easily."
She says her favorite thing about the industry is "making others cum while being happy, so everyone's happy. I feel like if I put on a good scene I'm happy—I'm enjoying being there—I feel the producer's happy, and the talent is happy because it's just a great scene; I feel like the people that are going to watch it are going to love it because they’re going to cum like crazy. I like that if I make it easy for everybody, it’s also easier for the editors to edit. I feel that every aspect of it makes everybody happy."
Looking forward, "I have a lot of goals and a lot of different things that I want to see myself do. I don’t have a main fantasy scene that I want to do. I want to do IR, I want to do anal, I want to do d.p., I want to do gangbangs, I want to do all that. I don’t know what specifically would make my scenes unique but also be something I really want to do. I'm still figuring that out."
