Former AVN Editor Frank Meyer Gets Webby Nod

LOS ANGELES — Frank Meyer's G4tv show "Freestyle 101" has received a nomination for a Webby Award, considered the Academy Awards of web content, in the Best Music Series category.

An associate editor at AVN for several years, Meyer also wrote a blog titled "The Porning Report" for entertainment trade bible Variety, previously served as an editor of POPsmear magazine, and authored the book "On the Road With The Ramones."

Meyer's "Freestyle 101" has been broadcast across multiple platforms through G4tv since March 2007, with a current archive of over 65 episodes. The show features some of the world's biggest names in rap freestyling on topics of interest to the G4tv audience, such as videogames, MySpace, YouTube, movies and so on. Artists who've appeared on "Freestyle 101" include Ice-T, Mobb Deep, M.O.P., Master P, B-Real, Fat Joe and members of the Wu Tang Clan.

"'Freestyle 101' getting nominated for a Webby is a great look for hip hop on the web," said Meyer. "Where else but 'Freestyle 101' are you gonna get exclusive freestyle tracks from heavyweights like Fat Joe, Ice-T, Mobb Deep, M.O.P., Kool Keith, Del the Funky Homosapien and Buckshot, alongside underground grinders like Papoose, Joell Ortiz, Murs and Ali Vegas?

"Plus, we are bridging the gap between geek culture and hip hop, two crowds that don't often get linked together," Meyer went on. "But most every rapper I know loves videogames and surfs the net, and practically every nerd I know loves hip hop. So the two audiences are not as far apart as you'd think."

"Freestyle 101" is housed in TheFeed section at G4tv.com, and is available as an iTunes podcast, on GoTV mobile, and via VoD through Comcast, Time-Warner, Adelphia, Charter and other cable providers. The show is webcast Tuesdays on G4tv.com at 9 a.m. PST.
