VAN NUYS, Calif. — Evil Angel is now shipping Defend Our Porn, a deluxe DVD compilation produced to raise money to fight the current federal obscenity charges against the company and owner John Stagliano.
Defend Our Porn is the first compilation to offer scenes from every current Evil Angel director, as well as former EA director Jules Jordan. The three-disc set contains 16 scenes with a total running time of 10 hours, including a brand-new scene produced exclusively for the disc that stars Tricia Devereaux — a.k.a. John Stagliano's wife, Karen, who retired from performing nine years ago.
John Stagliano and his companies were indicted by a federal grand jury in April on charges of transporting obscene material through the mail and the Internet. The movies named in the indictment are Evil Angel's Storm Squirters 2, Milk Nymphos and an online trailer for Belladonna's Fetish Fanatic 5.
Evil Angel founded the organization Defend Our Porn and its website DefendOurPorn.org in response to the charges. Evil Angel director Christoph Clark suggested the idea for the compilation.
"We received a tremendous amount of support from friends, colleagues and fans who asked what they could do to help," said general manager Chris Norman. "John didn't want to accept any offers of monetary donations because a prosecution like this has always been a possibility, and he was willing to accept that and face the legal fight."
All production costs and content for the release were donated in support of the company. Performer Derrick Pierce appears in the new scene with Devereaux, which was co-directed by Jay Sin and shot at the home of fellow EA director Joey Silvera. Other companies who contributed services to the project include authoring house DVDemon, graphics company Art Attack Design, printer Great Western Litho and DVD replicator Sunshine.
"When I heard about the charges, I wanted to do something to help John and Evil Angel," said performer/director Belladonna, featured in two scenes on the comp. "There are a lot of fans that want to do something to help John, and this DVD gives them a chance to get an excellent DVD for their money that they wanted to donate. It's also a great way to get the word out about what's going on."
Each scene was selected to showcase its director's style and the trademark quality of Evil Angel's product. Along with Belladonna, the release features such popular XXX performers as Sasha Grey, Eva Angelina, Rocco Siffredi, Manuel Ferrara and new Vivid Girl Nikki Jayne.
"I personally know quite a few of the girls in the scenes in this movie, and all of them have a love for expressing their sexuality and enjoying being a performer in porn," said Karen Stagliano. "I truly believe that their love and enjoyment for what they're doing is a highlight in their scenes."
The Evil Angel obscenity case looms large over the adult industry, especially given the outcome of the recent Max Hardcore trial. While other cases in the latest crop of obscenity prosecutions have focused on so-called "extreme" material, the Evil Angel indictment shows the government targeting a high-profile producer of what many consider to be "mainstream" porn.
"Evil Angel was singled out for this prosecution because the government is making an assault on more mainstream pornography, and not just the extreme fringe," said John Stagliano. "I am honored to be called upon to defend our industry in this fight and I appreciate this support."
Defend Our Porn starts shipping nationwide today and will be available in stores and online on July 3, just in time for Independence Day. The trailer including a full flash version will be available on evilangel.com, and there will also be copies for sale at the July 3 Bondage Ball at the Henry Fonda Theatre.
